Might've been one in 20 years, there was a statistic floating around the other day
How many recycled coaches are in the league at one time though, it’s heavily skewed. Like this year the media were spurting about how the top 8 were all first time coaches when appointed, well yeh 16/18 coaches in the competition are first time coaches.

Brad Scott has officially entered the Essendon coaching race, and will be interviewed for the top job on Thursday.

He will meet with the coaching sub-committee, led by Carlton premiership coach Robert Walls, football-department chief Josh Mahoney and four-time Hawthorn premiership player Jordan Lewis, with sources indicating the job is his to lose. An appointment could be made as early as Friday.

Yep, the bottom 8 coaches were all first time coaches too.

How many years would Scott get? I assume a 3 year deal

I certainly wouldnt be worried about whether scott is invested enough in coaching. Once that hands up and hes made it know to the press than hes 110% in. Think someone said he was around the geelong rooms?

Was at the under 18s vic game, i know presenting the medal but some early insight can only help with fueling the belly

Hes what we need, no doubt about that.

Which people would he bring with him i wonder? Wonder if some of those ex geelong assistants from 2021 would be targets for him. His brother seemed to have a great rapport with them

If does happen, feel for yze however Scott does fit our criteria better.

Thats my thoughts. I feel like Yze would be a great choice for a club that has just finished a good period and needs a refresher. A Geelong, Richmond, Port, Dogs etc when they concede its the end of an era, rebuild happening but the club itself is still in a good position. Then a young coach comes in with a good team around them and builds a new era around him. For us though, we're a ****ing basket case and I feel like we need someone who will not **** around.

The whole Choco Williams thing…..it can’t be a factor.

Yze has to stand on his own two feet as the best candidate to get the job. Choco could have a coronary at any time ffs….then your left with the bloke who wasn’t first choice as your head coach.
What if it was Yze and Scott?

But not a succession plan... :cautiousv1:

So just a senior coach in waiting (with a stated desire to coach again) heaping pressure on to Yze as the losses mount, the coteries start chattering, the supporters start booing and the press starts baying 🤔

Sound like something we’d be stupid enough to do tbh…😂

I’d guess it’ll be 5 years. Can’t see anyone taking a 3 year deal based on what’s happened with our past few coaches, whoever gets the gig will want to know they’ll be given time to succeed

I wonder if we’re keeping Blake C around? I’m not sure there is enough in the budget to turn over all the assistants.
They're probably easier to turn over because most of them would end up at other clubs, which offsets any pay-out we'd be on the hook for. The footy department cap is a soft cap anyway too, so you can go over it but then you pay luxury tax

Having a 5 year contract doesn't guarantee that they will be given that amount of time to succeed though, but, it does ensure that they will get a handy payout when we dump them in 2 years time.

So don't be surprised to see Scott, Yze or whoever, walking out the Hangar doors in 2 years time with moves like this.

I hope so. Still got a bit to offer IMO and he would’ve both played with Scott at Brisbane and coached alongside him at Collingwood back in the late 2000’s. Could form a great partnership.

we have super-business man Andrew Welsh on the board now so he’ll take care of the financials.

Blake Caracella
Joel Selwood
Luke Power
Spike Mcveigh

Would be some of the types id like for assistants

Has the panel leaked ? I have seen no evidence of leaks from the selection panel. To be honest it has gone pretty much like any other process has. There was plenty of media speculation about GWS . In the end the media did not have the Kingsley as a candidate until late.
There has been a lot of speculation and the club has not been shy saying which people they would like to interview on top of those who have applied.

Not a fan of Scott myself but I think him taking his time is more about being 100% sure he wants to do it rather than being someone who is a bit half arsed about it.
Yep, anyone I have seen that usually has good info have said they are getting nothing so the panel don't seen to be leaking seems more media than anything from the club.

I query Scott more on recycled coaches but of all things Scott doesn't come across as someone that doesn't to things half hearted he would be all in.
