also, was starting point post-board coup?

so we'd be in week 2 now. so end of Sept at the earliest. suspect whoever it is will be in place prior to trade period to green light any moves we have lined up.
XC spoke to the media after Truck was sacked on Sunday over a week ago. He had his own media conference after he announced his resignation last week as well. Pretty sure it was the former but they're only 2-3 days apart anyway.

Mahoney went on radio on Saturday.

6-8 weeks from the media speculation is from a tweet earlier in this thread, when Leon Cameron went on radio on SEN iirc?

So all estimates in the last week or so.

Edmund is a well known bullshitter

What's a well known bullshitter?

Someone caught out in a lie or someone who speculates a lot in a murky cross over of opinion and factual reporting (usually at trade time)?

He is definitely the latter, as is almost every "reporter" in the business but there is a clear difference between drawing conclusions based on information from sources and attributing the information directly to sources.

It's just hypothesis to get in early. I'd try it too, if I was a journo. And he isn't being categorical anyway.

This is not 1 + 1 = 2 reporting.

Edmund is specifically saying he was told the group of players in question wants Lyon.
it is a bit

“The feedback I’ve been given is some of the big names in that playing group want a strong hand and someone to really come in and take the bull by the horns and Ross Lyon would obviously be that man.

“With Ross Lyon, he is the guy who I’m told
the players want. But how much saw would the playing group realistically had?

There's a lot of joining the dots in there.
May just be the way he uses the English language. Notice it a bit with the footy journos that they ramble around the point.

It's not in relation to Lyon.

He says

"Now there is a group of players who want Ross Lyon...the feedback I've been given...Lyon would obviously be that man."

He then goes on to discuss why Barham' initial comments is the real feeling.

It looks like deductive reasoning when you look at the feedback paragraph. But he starts that paragraph by reference to feedback to explain why the players want Ross.

I dont think he has left himself any room to weasel out of it.

He later says "Lyon is who the players would want".

Maybe that sole "would" is his get out but how does that balance against his opening comments, headlines, tweet? It would be so contrived its a lie anyway.

You've started half way through it.

See above.

Bullshitter as in adds a heap of Mayo to sell the story. Just have to go through some of his stuff from the past 3 years. Someone like Ross Lyon who drives tough standards players would’ve said and he runs with senior players want Ross Lyon.

No idea who gets the job but it needs to be someone with a burning passion to coach and more specifically, to coach EFC.

Saw where Cameron said he wasn’t sure he had the energy for the process. That rules him out for me. Only want people who are desperate to be part of our club.

Time to move away from the idea we are lucky to have people and back to the idea that people are lucky to be part of EFC. This goes for players, coaches, execs and board members. If you aren’t all-in then piss off.

Is it not a part of what they do now days ? I hear a lot of SEN in the mornings and he is not wrong anymore than the next bloke. In fact he has had plenty right.

Nothing stopping the players from working harder or extra work, don’t need a coach to tell them that. I think it’s bs from Edmund
Not BS. I have heard it behind the scenes as well. The players wanted a coach who could drive them harder. Guess they where just not inspired by Truck.

Wouldn't read anything into it unless it's attributed. The players are all on break and mostly in Spain, I doubt they're actively seeking out a journo to talk about work.

The players have apparently been surveyed before they went away for the off-season so they've had their say, the selection committee and the board are aware of their perspectives on things.
It could also be some feedback the players gave in their exit interviews or whatever.
"Oh btw you're probably aware we're in the market for a new coach... what sort of things would you like to see in the successful candidate?"

Notice it a bit with the footy journos that they ramble around the point.

Being a barely literate neanderthal seems to be a key trait media companies look for when recruiting footy journos.

You don't seem to get the same thing in cricket though.

I find cricket writers to be quite eloquent.

Wish i liked the sport

I'm now reminded that Lyon said during the year that Merrett should be captain and gave some glowing praise about his preparation.
And I remember that David King said that Lyon is not a dictator, he sets standards and lets the leaders drive the standards. So if he is correct Lyon might be too much a Worsfold type where the players drive standards rather than what the players want a dictator to drive the standards.
