God help you if you ever have the misfortune to hit a wall in your life time, get better and stronger to then be told you shouldn't work or do what you love again! ...... Getting back on that old horse is the best medicine. I also never said you didn't have a right to voice your opinion.....It just makes me ill to the stomach that NOONE battered an eyelid that Jimmy returned to the coaches box this year YET the mere thought of him coming to Essendon to do the same is automatically TABOO....He is unfit, he is not mentally capable.....It's like we have a whole lot of Caroline Wilson clones as supporters that can't give a good enough reason why it would be a huge mistake?

I do also think a lot of people are not saying how they really feel about Jim just in case they get brow beaten.
I don't want Hird as coach because since he left us he has spent a total of 6 months in a coaches box.

Why do you want him as coach? (making the assumption you do, my mistake if reading your post incorrectly)

It would be a huge mistake above all because there is no way known he is the best potential coach available in a coaching ability or resume sense. Simple. He’s coached for six months in the past seven years.

We’d be getting him because he is James Hird, Essendon Legend, after making a big show of supposedly running a proper process.

Call me weird, but I’d just like the best coach available.

Jaymie Graham's CV actually stacks up pretty well. Development coach at St. Kilda under Ross for 2 years in 2012/13, not sure where he was in 2014/15 because there seems to be a gap there in the timeline I've read, but was at West Coast from 2016 through to 2021, doing a mix of reserves coaching (in 2016 where they were affiliated with East Perth), forward line (2017-2019, when they had the best forward line in the AFL) and defence in 2020/21. He's the forwards coach of Freo this year which has had a marked improvement on the last couple of years.

Feel like he's a genuinely good option.
So it's safe to presume, for example, that he has had a leading role in the development of Switkowski and Frederick. Sounds promising.

I want James Hird to coach again because his statistics between 2011-2013 (obviously not counting 2015) show he is the best coach we have had since Kevin Sheedy. He achieved these results without any apprenticeship which you all value so highly.

2011 - 11 wins, 1 draw and 10 losses
2012 - 11 wins, 11 losses
2013 - 14 wins, 8 losses (the best season we have had since 2001)

In 2013 we were a contender. Obviously, the saga prevented us from actually being able to contend.

He had the players really playing for him. We had better structures than we have had since. Until the saga derailed us you could feel we were building towards sucess.

I believe, and most commentators seem to also agree from their own comments, that he is one of the smartest football minds around. He bleeds Essendon. He is a driven individual and he has something to prove. I believe he is the best candidate to deliver us sucess if we get him in and put the best people around him to support him.

The more this process goes on, the more I am convinced we would have been better off seeing how Rutten might have gone in 2023.
Clarkson
Buckley
Scott
Lyon
This is the point I have been trying to make since he was sacked.
The way Rutten was treated by the group who now holds sway won't be observed favourably by many at all. If you're an experienced senior coach, the vibe isn't there. If I'm an Yze or a Graham, I'm content to wait one more year and go to a club that treats its coaches with a little respect, because they just might sack you as easily and ruthlessly as the last guy. I'm not surprised so many are not interested.

The selling point of giving Rutten the ass was that the group needed an "experienced senior coach" at this point in time, so if that was the aim of Barham's board coup then anything less than Clarkson or Lyon is not nailing the brief. Further, if we've decided to look for a senior coach in September and they absolutely have to be at the club within a 6 week period so they're at the helm in time for drafting then we are not following a good process, no matter how many presentations, references and psych interviews you want to extract from it.

Embarrassing few months to be an Essendon supporter, moreso than usual even
Yep. It's a dog's breakfast.

i just want someone with a proper name. Jaymie, Yze, Leon? no thanks.

give me a James, a Scott or a Brett please.

I don't want him there because he's not the right fit. His experience is limited, even in the capacity as an assistant. Our group is young and I'd rather they weren't subjected to the sliver of doubt they would have every right to have if Hird got the gig.

I do believe he was jibbed by the AFL. Tough break. Through not much fault of his own, he's now not the right fit in my view.

This said, if he goes through the process and is legitimately found to be the best available candidate then so be it. I also think, though, that if Rutten had been given the first half of '23 to turn things around and then sacked if he couldn't, we would have attracted a much stronger candidacy.

So, for me, it would be an acceptance of Hird under suffrance.

Dude, your name is jmoo.
It’s true.

When you meet jmoo and he introduces himself, he does so by saying a ‘jay’ in really exaggerated fashion and then putting on a cow costume and letting out a satisfied, I’ve just smashed some hay “MOOOOOO”.

Lyon's response concerns me tbh.
I wanted Lyon because I feel like the club is so split and without direction that we need someone to come in and shape it in their image - Lyon has a proven record of being that sort of coach - so has Sheedy, Clarko, Beveridge, Hardwick - all the great coaches that have completely altered the fabric of hapless clubs.
The fact that his intel has suggested that him and Essendon aren't a match, that they're not 'vibing' says to me that we're once again doomed to chew up and spit out whoever we hire next. That it's going to be impossible for a guy like Lyon to come in and overrule the status quo.

Lyon simply won’t do a process because he won’t risk being rejected.
It would take a bit of shine off his aura. Someone will coax him into a role someday.

Edit: I didn’t realise I was about 10 pages behind, this has probably been flogged already.

I think Hird will be an excellent head coach if given the chance again. IF he went through the proper process and Walls, Lewis etc nominate him as their strong recommendation I'd be happy for him to coach us.

But it would come with serious doubts that it was a proper process from me and others that would cause a lot of noise. I do worry about his mental health if things didn't go so well but ultimately if he decides he can and he was chosen under correct process I'd get behind him.

I just have serious doubts about any of the above occurring and think if he becomes our coach it won't be because of proper process, which we desperately need.

I gave myself a little nick once to check if it was Essendon that I bled.

Was in fact only plain blood. I was disappoint.
Be grateful, if you bleed Essendon you can only run in one direction and there is no hardness.

Which in hindsight is weird because I heard you have a soft doodle if you don't want Hird as coach. Or was it poodle? Or noodle....
