I'm still hearing a lot and reading a little that indicates to me that much of the commentary surrounding 'experience' of assistants misses the point when it comes this sort of 3 step process.

The experience is what gets a candidate in the door. It counts for almost nothing during the process itself other than to provide a reservoir of examples that said candidate may be able to use to respond to questions.

It's now up to the individuals to articulate a vision that wins the panel. I dont see how you tank the interviews, or even just be mediocre, and fall back on your CV.

If Hird gives this everything, and honestly I dont even know if he is a candidate, it's probably his job to lose. He's a man amongst boys, with few rivals in the industry, when it comes to his intelligence.

He's already been put through NAZI-era practical psychosomatic testing and didn't break while in the job. That's one of the 2 biggest unknowns. He's demonstrated 3 years of players bought in to what he wanted. That’s the other significant unknown he's got covered.

How many boxes does that tick that every non-senior coach will necessarily have an 'x' or '?' in?

People forget how good the man is in an interview. Remember the final presser in 2013 as an example?

The easiest part of this is the tactical stuff. This is where the assistants supposedly have the advantage. But you don't need to have been living and breathing the game for the last 10 years to provide a vision for how you want a team to play (and in Hird's case how things have evolved since his time).

What happens if Hird has the same tactical insight Yze does? Bye bye Adam.

We didn’t want an experienced coach because he had a record on a piece of paper. If it was just about record, Malthouse and Sheedy could be invited to participate. We wanted an experienced coach who could get buy in from flakes (who hasn't lost his mind). Hird has already done this.

We've got the process we wanted and now we need to be prepared for it to deliver the result we don't like (well that's not me, I'm rooting for it) or that we didn't expect. There are very good, valid reasons for this possibile outcome that most people are refusing to acknowledge.

Anyone think Beveridge is done at dogs? .

Not saying I would want him but I could easily see him leaving doggies but he himself is probably cooked.

BUT He could be a late entrant in phase 2.

I heard earlier in the week that the bulldogs were looking to extend him beyond next year when asked a question about whether the bombers could poach him so I would say no chance unless bevo is done with the joint himself

when did he do this? under hird top sides showed us up time and again. there was a lot of emotion in many wins in 2013, i don't think that's legitimate or sustainable 'buy in'.

there's also the careers of players he wasted in the twos so nick kommer could chase a guy round the forward fifty.

2011 to 2013 we're better years than Stewart Dew has had, for example.

Our list was utter shite.

Revisionist. The players didn’t play for Hird every single week. There were plenty of disappointing performances and head-scratching selection decisions like every other year for the past 15 years. He wasn’t a bad coach but he wasn’t a super one either.

i dont know what stewart dew has to do with the price of fish. that's setting a very low bar, we just sacked rutten for going better than dew has overall. i didn't see us a serious team then (list or otherwise), i also didn't see the team moving forward and developing good youth under hird.

Hird is not seriously going for it is he?
Good on him if he is…I want the process to be followed and the panel’s recommendation to be followed. If Hird legitimately wins that process wouldn’t you want him to be hired?

I want whoever wins the process and is recommended by the panel.

Disagree with most of that. I don’t think he’s that more intelligent than other candidates. Really don’t see how it’s his to lose either. I doubt he even applies.

“I’m really confident the way their footy club is set up”

jebus - surely that assessment raises some significant red flags around his judgement.

Maybe he already knows Dudoro is gone.

No way can and should they hire another new coach and leave someone who has played politics against CEOs, GMs & Coaches remain in place, if the external review doesn't recommend him gone it's a joke.

He could be a top 5 list manager (lol not even close) but the bullshit games he's been playing means he should 100% be ****ed off.

That or he knows Choco will come with him so he'll have 2 people with him who can tell Dodo to **** off.

It's an example. Dew is considered a good coach on a good trajectory.

Hird is an example of what it looks like when a coach wins games as opposed to waiting for an AFL handed glut of first round picks to come good. That's buy in. It certainly doesn't mean perfection. Matthew Nicks is another example of getting buy in with, in this case poor results.

Hird got 11.5, 11 and 14 wins in his first 3 years with a bad list that grew into something reasonable as the likes of Hooker and Carlisle came on. The midfield was horrible.

In 2013 I reckon raw emotion probably gains a win or 2 but then also cost a few or at least resulted is a few fade outs or pummellings. All things considered it was a solid on field year.

It doesn't mean our list was becoming amazing, it's not proof Hird was a coaching genius. To add some other context, Brad Scott, who I respect, has a best H&A season of 14-8.

It's significant because he is being treated as though those seasons never happened. People want to hold up a guy being an assistant for 11 years as though it means more than jack shit when compared to Hird's actual experience that checks boxes.

Can someone please help with the following, as we head into 'interview week'?
Definitely out:
Lyon
Cameron
Definitely in:
Yze
Hird
Unsure:
Scott
Hinkley
Pyke
Leppitsch
Gia
Any from the 'unsure' list going to be interviewed, or any definitely out?
Is Buckley definitely out?
Sorry if I have missed this, but where has it been reported Hird is definitely in?
