Who will adopt the choker tag?

I'm a bit vague on this whole choking scenario, but I was given to understand that because Port were minor premiers and didn't win a flag that made us chokers. Is that the rule? If so.....

Saints or Eagles will be the chokers of 2006. Whoever doesn't win the flag.

Why couldn’t it be both?

Or have you already written off the other 14 teams for 2006? ;)

Theres really only one team that has the choker tag and we all know who….[/IMG]

For me, I believe St Kilda is on the verge of becoming to Preliminary Finals, what Collingwood is to Grand Finals.

I thought it was because you had a hugely talented list, a significant home ground advantage come finals yet "went to water" each and every September without fail.

NOTE:

The irony of watching Collingwood supporters rejoice at your perennial PF losses, only to be shot down the following week in consecutive years was however, a joyous thing to behold. :thumbsu:

The past has got the big 3 the runs on the board, before opposition supporters like Aints, Cows etc can begin trying their best to downgrade the great clubs they need to win premierships and actually give something to their fans instead of year after year false hope!

How big was your grandfather's appendage?

Do you brag about that?

And how does that help you today?

Let's not forget that Sydney lost a couple of prelims that they should have won.

Not to mention North. And of course Port.

The thing people aren't recognising is that all these preliminary final 'chokers' actually won premierships. If that's what it means to become a 'choker', then sign me up.

Losing a GF can hurt. It can hurt really, really bad. But history suggests Prelim losses can and have been a real spur.

2003 vs Brisbane. Ball out injured, only Goodes in the ruck and the Brissie pair used bash & crash all night long so by the 3rd quarter Goodes was spent.

If only Ball hadn't injured his shoulder that year......

But a bit presumptuous dont you think, to state that Sydney "should have won" against a team that put together 3 successive Premierships?

I don't think you'd have found a single "expert" who would have tipped that game other than to the Lions.

BTW, If memory serves me rightly, we went OK in the '96 PF. ;)
(Not so good the week after mind you)

Sydney only lost one Preliminary Final, and I don't think they were favourites - even money, I assume. They probably should have won, when leading at 3/4 time.

The second year around the Saints were always going to win - but it was a Semi Final.

Interesting when you look at finals performances over the last 10 seasons I think it's clear who the real chokers in September are.

Jeez you people have obviously become real fond of it.

If what you Crowies have been telling us for a few years is true then there can only be one choker per year and that's the side that comes top at the end of the minor round but fails to make the grand final. Last year that was you. This year who knows? If you're lucky the side that comes top will make the GF and you'll get to hang onto the tag.

West Coast already have.

I would have thought a side that keeps telling us what a great paper list they have and then continually fails to live up to expectations, failing in all but one year to make the 8 could consider themselves to have a stranglehold on the title. Freo history = continual choke.

The Power have thrown the tag, but it will always live with them (to an extent). They have worked it off, but with every finals loss...

Unfknblvble!!! every thread we cop it because we're not allowed to allude to the fact that six of our starting 22 were missing for the prelim, but here we go if only Ball wasn't injured

If only Kosi, Hamill, Fisher yata yata yata

We choked alright, on the bitter irony that if not for injuries we would probably be premiers

Sorry Toots but the Port Adelaide Power have rightly claimed the title of chokers to keep as their own after the unforgettable years of 01,02 & 03.

Yep, silly of me to state that with 2 ruckmen on the night we might, I said might have fared better.

Injuries play a part in each teams fortunes, mine and yours. But please remind me which coach last year brought back underdone players for his team going into the PF?

You however, have to accept that Mr "I Eat Pressure for Breakfast" traded away your only tap ruckman and has cost you 2 GF positions in successive years in the process.

Thats 2, not 1.

And through choice, not injury.

LOL @ Syd

How many players would we have lost (or not had) with Spida on our list?

Kosi took Sydney to the cleaners last season and was the biggest 'out' from last years PF.

And so it goes after trying to debunk the injury myth it cycles back to the coach

I take it you mean trading away spida! ?? Great move, lauded by most fans. If we needed was spoida in the middle how come we didn't win while he wass there, how come the hawks are languishing on the bottom??

Playing underdone players is better than playing none, lets hope the swans have a massive blowout with injuries this year, we'll see how your overrated hack handles it

Wasn't the team itself the biggest "out" from last years PF ;)

BTW, how does it feel to be the only team beaten by Sydney by more than a "handful" of points in last years fnials series???

Was there not another young ruckman, traded away by your club because he wanted a bigger paypack?

Charming, educated & well articulated reply...

I wont stoop to your level. In fact, I hope you can get another Premiership in the next hundred years to add to the one you already have.

L U C K pure and simple, Sydney had it we did not, lets see how the afl's basket case goes this year shall we???

Lets hope they do ok, hate to see a sudden massive upsurge in support for the nrl if the wheels fall off the bandwagon
