Bryce Gibbs has everything to make the perfect footballer endurance strong body great skills etc theres one thing he lacks is toughness in fact he is really soft.

Ratten has probably said well if he's not going to go in hard enough he's a waste of a midfield spot.

He can run so he can run with a opposition mid thats why he's tagging.

Ratten/Carlton are doing the right thing until he shows he's going to win his ball there is no point of him playing a mid/inside mid role.

Don't think for 2 seconds that the final call is on Ratten where to play Gibbs.

carltank have put the cue in the rack now that judas got done by tribunal
try again next year flogs. :thumbsu:

I remember Roos did this to Jack for a whole season. I think the mantra was for him to play alongside the best to see not only what it takes but to emulate that and add defensive pressure to his skills.

Mate Gibbs is into his 5th year at Carlton so if he hasnt learnt those aspects of the game by now he never will.I cant see why he cant play as a forward in the same way a Mark Lecras type role plays forward and he shouldve been used out of the goalsquare as a forward tonight considering we looked shithouse every time we went forward. You dont use highly skilled attacking players as taggers as they are wasted.
Ratten again displayed tonight why he wont be there next year

when our better midfielders are in the team, you could always make the argument that he had to be played somewhere and that sort of... half back role was more a luxury and not necessarily something we should do or wanted to do.
if we have a whole bunch of them out, it starts to look strange.
it's hard to really think of him as a tagger anyway. it's a very loose kind of tag. maybe he's just trying to make the other guy accountable but not always getting it himself as much as he maybe should.
as time goes on he's looking more like a scotland or carrazzo type player.

Because he's not hard enough, fast enough and makes poor decisons when rushed.

Really good size and a good kick when in space, but a serious waste of a number one pick.

Has he ever been held accountable like this though for an extended run though?
I agree you don't waste an attacking player on tagging but you also have to develop defensive skills somewhere.

Tagging's a great idea for a player struggling for form. By tagging a good player, they take you to the ball and get you involved in the game.
Going by your logic then Collingwood should think about playing Cloke in a tagging role in their next game then. Its a ridiculous logic for a player who is skilled and attacking to be played into form by tagging players

Should he look for a trade ?

This guy was killing it at 16 in the SANFL As a midfielder and now in his prime he's a loose back flanker/ tagger.

Not the hardest player going around but surely he can be a better player, maybe a different coach or team can get the best out of him.
