Wiggins

I know this is probably best placed on the Buddy thread, but some of you need to be outed.
There were some pretty harsh things said last week, and had he been dropped we would have lost our ONLY target running forward last night (apologies to Fisher, close second)
Just giving people any opportunity to reflect on their comments, and maybe apply a similar "players can redeem themselves" idea before calling for the axe this week.

Wiggins MUST go.
Wiggins was well below average. MUST be dropped.

Oh, and please, PLEASE drop Wiggins. He was awful, almost every time he got the ball he stuffed it up. He was almost useless

Wiggins, despite his effort, has shocking skills under pressure and should be dropped

I've not named poster's, because this is not about trying to shame you, or start a lsnging match (but you know who you are;) ).

The point is that we can all sit on the sidelines and judge a player on one or two games, but a knee jerk reaction might just cost us down the track.
Food for thought.:thumbsu:

Maybe you can name those who have stuck by him ????

To be perfectly honest, I cannot remember what I said about Wiggins. But, if I did say drop him (not sure I did), well done to him for proofing the nay-sayers wrong:thumbsu:

There was a general attitude building against the fella,...best to nip these things in the bud.

next week bryce wont STAR and there will be threads about how much of a bad draft pick he was....etc

Again, I don't really want to name names. It would detract from the point, which is to give senior players and proven perfromers a chance to redeem themselves, or we may end up shooting ourselves in the foot.\

but here's the link if you really want to know who said what ;)

changes for next week

We have quite a few guys that do that, but he presented alot better than say Russell did last night...

Comparing these two guys shows just how much you know about the game.

Russell didnt play after half time due to a head injury so its a bit hard for him to get a touch given that he was on the bench.

In relation to Wiggins, I am not a fan and last night didn't do alot to change my mind. Yes he presented and took a couple of nice marks, but what does he do with the ball? Sure, last night many players were down but i would argue that Wiggins does not have the skills to consistantly play at the highest level and certainly wont be a long term member of the team. If he is, then our younger players will not have made the progress that we are expecting of them. Remember this guy was taken 15 in the 2000 draft, with players such as Scott Thompson (16), Daniel Kerr (18), Kane Cornes (20), Mark Coughlan (25), Jamie Charman (29), Adam McPhee (39) and Chris Hyde (40) all taken after him.

He has been a huge disappointment given the draft pick used to take him. Sure he has tried hard, but if he is in our best 22, then we are still a very long way off being a good side.

Christ, he's a hack who had a good night. Probably stood out more because so few stood up. David Teague won our B & F the other season, you want to point the finger at people who label him not up to it? Name another club who would take Wiggins.

I really think the Wiggins thing needs to be addressed once and for all. He presents very well, is fantastic over head, and he will always give you 110%.

Having said that, he IS NOT the most skillful player at the club, and needs those silky mids to feed off to. His best work would be done in the 40-80m zone from goals, dishing off quickly, and getting the ball inside 50 to where Fev, Josh and Fish are lurking.

Exactly, a bit hard for a run-with player to "present". In fact I thought in the first half JR read the play relatively well as when to peel off and make space and when to stick closely with his man.

Having a look again at the first half, his disposal after marking on the wing was fine. Hit JK on the lead, then hit Scotland at another time........the fact that he marks it means that even if he doesn't pinpoint a target, the contest will now be 30-50m further up field than if he didn't mark it.........which sadly was the case for most other players around the ground.

I'll ask again, which other team would want Wiggins?

His form late last year warranted him being in the team, and has now been elevated into the leadership group. He presents well, and in OUR team, plays a pretty important role.

As for other teams, if they need a HFF that presents well and is great above his head, then i'm sure they would have a look at him.

That's hardly an arguement, to say that a player, only just in the best 22 of the worst team in the competition wouldn't be wanted by any other clubs isn't really a stretch. They wouldn't take Hartlett either, but he's probably the next in line.
All that proves is he is no superstar. So what.
The point was that he was not our worst player against the Cats, and meny people wanted him dropped.........a comment on knee jerk reactions more than anything......sorry if it was a bit deep for you.

Even though Wiggo is as honest as they come and gives 110% he will not be part of the future. He is a mark and kick player with no tricks, would have been a good player in the 80"s

First of all, good to see some people finally sticking up for Wiggo.

Its disgusting that so many posters on here bag the bloke out when he has more heart then most of the boys in our side. Not once does he flinch from a contest and anyone who can bounce straight back up from a Byron Pickett shirt-front deserves respect from his own supporters.

Absoulute disgrace.

Its not about his courage, its about his ability. If we are to go forward he wont be a member of a successful Carlton team. I think his courage is fantastic, but unforuntately for Wiggo, he is not skilled enough to be a damaging player in todays football.
