Still totally unsure whats gone on...we're all swept up in a sense of bewilderment i think. But at least I'm taking losses much better than last year. And when we do win i'll be very very happy! There were some wins last year that it felt like we didn't really deserve it tbh :p

It'll just be our luck this year we if we beat hawks in Tas....The only game at the start of the year we penciled in for a guaranteed loss...

but nah, who knows. If we do lose every game....thennnnn it's a little tooo odd...

If Ross is as smart as I think he is they would go winless yes. Will be after that number one draft pick. But has a game up his sleeve because Essendon beat Melbourne, so depending on percentage there's an opportunity to win the derby later in the year. For the fans. If a Premierships not on the cards [and its not] a derby win is about the same down that way.

The interesting question isn't will they, or even should they, but can they go the golden spoon without the fans and/then board shitting the bed and doing something stupid like sacking the coach? Or being investigated by the AFL for tanking?

I think this is the reason Pav will play out the year, without him in the side the last 2 losses would of looked suss. They aren't that far away from the top sides even without the Sandilands/Fyfe/Bennell trio in the middle. This is a problem. But Pav's record for missing clutch goals over the journey is beyond scrutiny. With McCarthy waiting on the sidelines this year Ross can keep the team in good touch and just lose games via Pavs conversion rate.

Its a cunningly brilliant plan, Ross really is the bossest of Boss's. Pav is happy cause he gets to play to 350 games. Ross is happy because he gets his picks. Fans will cop it because they love their former captain to a fault. AFL will cop it because how do you say a full forward kicking 26 goals 90 in a season isn't just bad luck? Walters and Balla's will be doing their bit too, maybe 14/40 from each of them. Then 2017, Freo Premiers.

I have a funny feeling that Freo will win a few games in the second half of the season and lift themselves off the bottom.

The thing that anoys me about the afl is if you can't make finals then you're best coming last fir draft picks. I think the afl gave to give incentive for bottom 10 teams to win games.

We aren't playing bad, we have lost several games by 20 points or less, and have been in most games.

Losing Fyfe, Johnson and Sandilands has hurt us during games, as has having Mundy, Bennell and the other key players out for large chunks of the year.

After next week shellacking, we have Tigers, Saints, Essendon, Brisbane, Port, Collingwood which all look winnable.

We will win 1 game :)

Saints will probably smack us at Etihad as per usual!

Best reply yet. But so true if they can snare a top 3 pick and use there 2nd rounder to get mcarthy. Hell they should offer the dee's there first pick for hogan.

The fly in that ointment is we have no 2nd rounder this year (traded it for Bennell last year).

The aim is to win premierships - clearly we couldn't with the list we had and the AFL does not reward teams battling on to be average.

Actually that was a seperate trade.

You traded it pick for #35 in the 2015 draft. With that pick you took Harley Balic - a player that by some reports on your forum, will never play due to a serious hand injury.

Why would we give a 2nd rounder for McCarthy? GWS should be happy to accept whatever we offer. They absolutely screwed themselves over with the Cam trade.

Will they go hard for draft picks for next season? Already looking likely they will get a top 4 pick. They got a few players up their sleeve with potential value.
They should look at moving Neale, de Boer, Mzungu, Clarke, Silvagni on. Could sneak in a couple of picks in the 30 for Neale, Silvagni or Clarke.

Ok. But Balic was known to have the injury coming in which is why he slid to #35. Once drafted he has had an op now which apparently 'went very well'. Will have to wait till late next year before we can even think about making a call on his long term chances. Club has been desperate the last few years to get better ball users but with only late picks since we drafted Hill and Morabito it means we are often taking risks trying to get them.

Neale is more valuable than that I would think. Brilliant player.

Ok then fair enough, we don't know what's going to happen long term. Hope he does well and gets back.

It was just a strange draft move, particularly in that draft.
