They had to come off, but its not a good look when its immediately after the umpires were approached (probably, but not necessarily, about the rain).
Still, England can't complain given the earlier delay.
The last time they should have come off much earlier. Umpire had then play through heavy rain and lightning, then they called it as soon as England got in front. Then they couldn't get off fast enough.

So bad luck for them.

Honestly be shocked if England get a point they had every condition they could tonight and still lost. Their fielding is so bad…yet McGrath tries her best to out trash them by horrific field placements. Here’s an idea Knight keeps hitting it over mid off…put someone there!

Anticlimactic in the end, but the right call, it could have been dangerous out there with a wet, slippery ball.

It was nice to see England make it a contest, but once again the best team won. 16-0 a real possibility.

Just had a look on some social media in England , and guess what , we are cheats again. Not all posts , but a reference to Steve Smith etc. I think we have been reasonable respectful of the English women . never mind that the Poms have lost 4 (now 5) matches and were no chance of taking the Ashes anyway.
The impressive thing about the Aussies is even when some of the players are below par , someone else puts their hand up .

I'd love to know what the lightning rule is. I was sure it was if there is visible lightning you are off. There was tonnes of it last night.

Anyways -16-0 **** off.

For the AFL it's if lightning is within 10km - that's what caused the delay in the Hawthorn vs Geelong game early last season

I'd be surprised if it was much different for cricket - watching on TV & being able to see the lightning in the background, I was surprised they didn't go off earlier

I've had one person online complaining that the officials made an error because they claim it was still raining when the match was restarted, and that they should never have resumed play 😂

So I guess any suggestion that the men's Ashes should also be decided by multi format would be howled down by bigfooty.

However there is some merit to traditional test only bilateral series being decided by a multi format points system.

T20 is such a big and inescapable format of the game now that it's representation in deciding who is the best nation in a bilateral series is I think a more rounded way of deciding a series than test only, along with ODI's.

Points in this system could potentially go into deciding an overall "world cricket champion" to add to the seperate format tournaments.
