Dude... there were water shortages at half time in europe during games because people were rushing to the toilet... Amongst other things, that is ridiculous... In countries were football is more important than religion 99% of the population is some how involved in the football when the world cup rolls around, Olympics doesn't even come close.
I get the feeling even in here in Australia, although many supporters were bandwagoners it still created a billion times more interest than the Games ever will.
The Olympics involve hundreds of events, thousands of athletes and almost every single country on Earth. The World Cup is a 32 nation soccer tournament.

u do actually know that the soccer/football world cup actually involves every pretty much every country in the world, the 32 team finals is the culmination of years of lead up matches.
more people world wide take an interest in the football world cup, as it actually means something to the people of the country
who cares bout some twat riding around on a horse, or a group of ***** jumping into a pool, or a table tennis comp, or some sweaty eastern europeans having a wrestle, or some fat chicks throwing a rock, would u even recognise the australian equestrian team if u saw them at the pub?? and they win gold medals every year!! do they even go to the pub!?!?

Yet the WC involves the best 32 countries (argubly) in the world whilst the Olympics has newbies that even i can kick their arse. Are you saying the Olympics are better because they have more participants??? Heck if ya going to get technical.... The WC kicks the Olympics arse in Television audiences, Sponsorship dollars, Tourist attractions etc. And thats just touching the surface.
