Anyone think that an 18 year old Jordan would dominate the AFL? Look at the new AFL prototypes - they very much have the NBA basketball build.

Some interesting stats in comparison to Franklin :

both are 6'6
only 3 kg's difference with Franklin being slightly heavier
Jordan's wingspan is 5 cm's wider than Buddy (amazing)
Jordan's handgrip is 3cm's longer than Buddy's

Aerobic capacity would be in Jordan's favour slightly. He would be an impossible matchup for any team and you couple this with his insane drive to win.

I watched Jordan play live in 96 and I can tell you now that he made Franklin or Goodes look like school kids. A man that size doing things that you cannot imagine against 7 footers.

So do you think with the way the game is going that an athlete like Jordan would dominate? If he came to your club, where would you play him?

PMSL... He wouldnt survive the draft camp. Basketballers are awesome at what they do, but our game is so different. Sure he is basketballs buddy love, but he would get a flogging in our game.

one of the greatest athletes in the world would get a flogging? I suppose you are going to say Jeff Fenech would have smashed Ali next.

Jordan would probably not have the foot skills required for the AFL and he certainly wouldnt have the stamina required.

Lol better aerobic capacity. I've seen Jordan. And i've seen the AFL. They don't compare my friend.

I bust a gut playing football. I can't even expend enough energy during a basketball game to make me tired at the end or make me come off. You've got to be kidding mate. I play both and football is by FAR the more aerobic. Sure Jordan is one of the best athletes of all time but he is not comparable with AFL just as Buddy isn't comparable with the NBA.

No. A young Jordan would have to spend a few years learning the game and increasing his aerobic ability. He would also have to adjust to playing a contact sport (or what contact is left in AFL anyway).

And of course we all remember how well this great athlete's baseball career went, don't we?

If I was a recruiter, I'd happily let another team draft him while I'd get a footballer.

For a start there is no way that Jordan would take the pay cut. He blows more money in a night at the Atlantic City casinos than most AFL players make in their career.

The there was the infamous failed baseball experiment.

Athletes like Bo Jackson or Deion Sanders, who were proven 2 sport stars, would have had a better chance.

If he spent a couple of years learning the game he would've dominated it. He is the most freakish athelete ever put on this earth - its a no brainer. Remember Buddy and Richo cant kick and they dominate the game.

I had to LOL at this comment - Buddy and Richo can't kick? Excuse me?

Buddy is a superb field kick, as is Richo.

It would take years for Jordan to learn the skill of kicking and most likely would never get it to an acceptable level. Most people have played footy since they were little children and most would not be able to kick the ball at AFL standard - What makes you think a basketballer would be able to learn this skill in a few years?

What is this fascination with plucking supreme athletes from other sports so they can play AFL? The AFL isn't an easy game to play - but I guess this is BF and anything goes with some of the nuffies around here.

Jordan was one of the worlds elitest sports stars ever seen! It wouldn't of taken him long to adapt to AFL and kill it!

Wow really? I'm the complete opposite, I am normally buggered towards the end of a basketball match while I don't find it that hard to run out an entire footy match although I'm not exactly playing the highest standard of footy...

Basketball skills translate into AFL very well. A lot of great AFL players come from basketball backgrounds such as West, Pendlebury, Boomer Harvey, Dean Brogan (who has played both NBL and AFL) off the top of my head. I think Paul Roos was a state basketball player in the day. Wouldn't be a shock if Jordan did dominate if he actually played.

Why wouldnt he?

If on one hand you say if he took AFL up at 16, well then it would be harder...

But if we were born with it, he's be the greatest. With his dedication, easily.

yes he would kill it. he'd have 1000 times the skill as what marty clarke had when he first started, amazing athlete and pendlebury plays AFL sosoftness wouldnt be an issue.

Please correct me if I dreamed this or something, but I have a vague memory of somebody telling me a quote years ago from Jordan, who when asked what sport he would have been best at (apart form basketball) he said he would have dominated playing CHF in the AFL?

I couldn't find it anywhere on the net so maybe it was a dream....

Most, if not all, NBA players would kill AFL if they were brought up on the game. Even NFL players would go well.

We're talking about players who have made it at pro level from a population of 400 million (even more when talking basketball as it is a worldwide sport) compared to AFL players who have made it at the relatively small pro level from a population of 20 million.

AFL players as athletes are very small fish in a massive pond when you look at it from a global perspective.

Do you know what the common theme is with those players? They all grew up playing footy. Taking a player from the the NBA who has never seen the oval shaped ball is entirely different - how can you not see this?

1000 times the skills of Marty Clarke? Havin' a laugh. It would take Jordan years to get his footskills any where near up to scratch.

Thats the thing - IF they were brought up on the game - but they arn't and therefore would struggle big time.

AFL players as athletes? Being an athlete is more about how high you can jump.

Since when did running 15-20km a game, whilst running near or at top speeds constantly colliding with other players at high impact force put AFL players in the lower rung of athletic capabilities?

I think thats pretty impressive but thats just me

Jordan is dominating the USAFL at the moment! he has kicked 46 goals for the season (3 rounds in) playing HF/ff...he is a gun & i hope he does get drafted to Carlton.
