Would you have done anything different before the AFL era started?
I would have created a NEW comp starting from scratch in 1990... leaving behind any history back in the VFL. the AFL era started with way too many struggling Vic clubs and way too many VFL traditions from the MCG contract, to awards being named after Vic players etc etc. a new comp needed to be established.,

2.Essendon
3.Geelong
4.Carlton
5.Richmond
6.Hawthorn
7.Melbourne
8.Merged clubs
9.Fitzroy/Footscray
10.St Kilda/North Melb
11.Sydney
12.West Coast
13.Brisbane
14.Adelaide (force the SANFL hand in 89 for the AFC to join)

Port Adelaide (1996)
Tasmania (2010)
West Sydney (2012)
