What is the matter with us this year? First North, squandering a 27 point lead at 3 quarter time to lose, and now Collingwood in pretty much the same circumstances.

I do not blame Wallace if he labels us as chokers again in his press conference.

Something must be done in regard to our goalkicking, it is simply not good enough to kick 15 points and 8 goals. In particular Grant and Darcy.

I can't remember ever being this frustrated with the teams performance.

Lift your game Footscray!!!!!!!!!

Perhaps there is a bright side to this. We have been competeitive in all our games, including playing the then 2 top teams, and now the top Vic team at present.

OK forget about the finals this year, but surely there is a great room for improvement, and when we do, we'll probably be one of the troublesome sides knocking off final 8 contenders, and with a promising 2003 season to look forward.

Doesn't make the present less frustrating , though....

ahhhhhhhhhhhhh theyre singing the song :( bloody hell. i never thought i'd say this and maybe its just my mood but i don't think we can keep taking positives out of these games until we win. i was nearly in tears at the end of the game...

ahhh the press conference.."theyre trying their guts out..we're competitive with the higher sides and we have been all season...its just our kicking that let us down. again" (thats what terry walace said)

go dogs..we have to win another one one day

In a few other game this year I thought the poor kicking tag was a weak excuse for beaing beaten in the second half, but this time it really was a case of we played better than them and kicked ourselves out of the game. Grant lost the game off his own boot.

argh!!!!

I'll probably gret knocked for saying this but "CHRIS GRANT!!! WHAT HELL THE ARE YOU DOING !!??" yet another game thrown away and reallylike sammy newman said look no further than the skipper.

He missed 2 goals that shouldve been kicked and seems to as of late been lacking some ticker.... GO IN AND GET THE HARD BALL. Stop playing for free kicks (you deserve em but if you think the maggots are gunna pay em you are ****ing into the wind) Go in hard take some big grabs..... PLEASE!!!!

All these little frustrations probably are blinding most people to our major problem, we have no on field leadrship. Seriously no one is willing to stand up and do the hard things, bring the others into the game and most of all do that something special to fire the team up. (eg Roccas speccy, Buckley's last quarter)

ITS SO BLOODY FRUSTRATING!!!! I seriously wanted to damage something at colonial today!!!

While I am disappointed with Chris's performance i think it is a bit ridiculous to blame him for the loss. Sure we played well but there were A LOT of mistakes and there were other players to miss goals and other players who stuffed up when the pressure was on in the last quarter. I am so sick of that feeling u get late in the game when u realise it's over..it's just shattering. I too am sick of the positives..even though i realise everyones just gotta try and keep there heads up.

I absolutely hate being annoyed with ppl like Chris so i try hard not to be. In regards to Darcy..what do ppl think of his kicking style?

I too am fed up with positives being taken out of each game. Yes we can all see the positives, but when you're getting beaten each week it's easier to overlook positives than focus on them. I would actually like the players who are not getting the goals e.g. Grant, the players who feel they have to hospital handpass to a team mate when clearly they themselves have the clearway e.g. West, the players who will kick to the opposition, e.g. Hunter, the players who are running into goal, have perfect position and momentum and pass to a player with a difficult angle or no space e.g. nearly all our players going for goal lately ( is it lack of confidence ??). There are many more to mention, I think we've all seen examples of these and more frustrating passages of play each week. Our players need to stop be so unselfish and start being a little more selfish. In saying that I mean that when they have a clearway and the momentum and you think something is going to come out of such exciting play, they will then handpass or kick to a teamate with a lesser chance at completing the passage of play before stuffing it right up. I've run out of ideas, I don't know what more the team needs to do, all suggestions that I have made in the past have been shot down by other posters. What is wrong with our team this year ?

Yep - his kicking has probably deflated the team and crowd in at least 3 games now to the point of being a significant factor in those losses. But ignoring his kicking - he's still playing way below his best. He hasn't a hand in many of the goals that we have scored and he is really struggling at ground level, particularly when going away from goal.

This could have been posted in any of the other threads over the past 7 weeks (or more) that have said the same thing. Play him at CHB. I simply cannot understand the reluctance to give this a go. It's not as if we have anything to lose.

Grant needs to be played at CHB, WELL AWAY FROM THE GOALS, where he can direct play yet not be responsible for scoring. This might help him get his confidence back. If he can't kick "Captain's goals", then let the other forwards take responsibility. Bandy and/or Saunders need to have some confidence shown in them to step up into goal-kicking roles.

I don't bag Grant all that often, and im not really bagging him now, he needed to kick a "captains goal" in the third quarter...

He hit the post and the game changed, and not for the first time this season...

PC, i think you just hit the nail on the head. Chris Grant is very much needed on the ground (CHB of course) but is no captain in my opinion and could not motivate my kids under elevens team. Seriously, i think the captaincy is putting too much pressure on Chris to perform and in particular in front of goal. GEEZE we miss a Scott Wynd out there to marshall the troups.

I'll probably get shouted down for this (as i already have in private by some) but i honestly think, for pure on field leadership, you can not go past Brad Johnson and Rohan Smith.

Take the burden off Grant and see how he goes. Not everyone is a born leader, and there is no disgrace in not being able to lead a side like some of the other captains do.

Great players do not always equal great leaders. At the moment, I think one is eating into the other with Grant and the result is disastorous. (much like my spelling)

Not shouted down PC - just of different opinions

I personally don't think Grant is holding his job out there as captain - but I can't say I see a replacement either.

Some of you may see some good leaders, but if that was the case, why are they not showing these skills when chris is not performing.

But then again I am new to this and if you can educate me differently then I'm most welcome to hear and see what you are saying. If it means a win - I'm for it.

Rohan is having the best start to a season since about 99 i'd say

Brad is Bulldog spirit personafied and a natural born leader...

For any of you guys who went to pre season training (intra clubs and training runs) would have seen how quiet it was on the track. There were only three voices that you could hear, but you could hear them loud.

Brad Johnson & Rohan Smith. Marshalling troups, encouraging, giving lip, the only ones who would talk it up, the only ones activily going up to players and helping them, they were everywhere. These two are the men for the job IMO.

The third for anyone who's interested was Nathan Brown, but he's not ready to be captain.

Thank you Master - I apologise for my stupidness in not seeing this:p

I will print this out and recite it before I go to bed for the next week.

Thanks PC - I do appreciate your opinion and it is great to learn these things from such a devoted supporter - Yes I am been serious;)

Gee, what a good idea. Strip Grant of the captaincy after Round 7 2002 and promote someone else.

Surely you can't be serious. (and ok, I won't call you Shirley..)

TADS, win or no win, it CAN'T be done and should NOT be done and WILL NOT be done. Even if he resigned it would not be accepted. Can you imagine the furore?

So what's the use of discussing it?

I agree with you 100 per cent curly5.

Strip Grant of the captancy and destroy him and the club! Turning on ourselves and eating our own is not the way to advance.

No one suggested to strip him of the club in the middle of the season!!

Then why raise it now if you don't believe it should happen mid season ?
Surely it would be better to discuss it at the end of the season
review.

Are we hurting Grants feelings by discussing it now?

Does it hurt anyone?

Everyone seems to have an opinion on it, it is a public forum after all.
