The lessons for the 2018 season have to be; not having 4 or 5 depth players prepared in case of injury or emergency. In 2019 the selectors picking Pickett was a good sign. Showed a bit of preparedness to take a risk.
I hope our main focus this year is the flag, but with an eye to seasons 2021, & 2022 as well. Get games into RCD, CJ, Egg. etc We won't be able to match the offers that come (eg Ellis) Interstate boys like Kmac or CJ may start attracting interest. On the other hand there may be good players who want to join us for unders.

Good thoughts and ideas, however I think our issue in 2018 was refusing to USE depth players and repeatedly running our best 22 into the ground so they were out of puff come the tail end of the year.

Blokes like Miles & Lloyd should have been played more to allow guys like Dusty to rest when carrying minor soft tissue injuries.

After a 37 year drought we all know how hard it can be to win a flag. I'll be spewing if we blow any more chances. The coaching group are great. The playing group are great. It looks like they believe winning flags is their raison d'etre. Lead by Cotch. In 2020, what I'm relaxed about is depth. On G/Final day, I think we could win with any of: Stack, Graham Ross Kmac, Balta, , CJ, , RCD, Higgins, Chol. Not sure about Naish, Turner, Garth Markov yet.

Kmac was emergency for the G/final. So he's still valuable. Especially in defence.

I rate him. But if we were offered a trade as you suggested, I'd quickly be responding to that enquiry. We have enough youth coming through and to get something for him at this point would be a bonus imo.

Yeh, if we could get good draft picks for someone like him, it's definitely do-able.

He's a good strong bodied player who protects other guys, who would be starting 18 at any club outside the 8. He just doesn't quite fit in with what we've built, imo. Disposal skills are a bit lacking.

Disposal is fine, he just doesn't get it enough. Average 15 disposals which isn't enough for a wing/hb.

He is not quite tall enough to be a KPD, but close. So he is good back up for Grimes & Broad this year.

He's still there and a bit of a tease because he is a strong player who has been a good player. Torched Judd a couple of times in his first game and thought the sky's the limit for this bloke. Seems backup is where he is right now.

But first in line for the grimes/broad spot. I'd have Balta/Garth for Astbury. And how do we replace Vlas?

Not sure about playing Markov in the fwd line. Should be looking at HBF with his his burst and speed.

You're right HBF is his go, just not with Richmond. Unfortunately Markov is just not up to the required standard. We have better players than him not getting a game. He was lucky he had a year to run on his contract, else, he'd be out the door.

He has one season left to show he's good enough and I don't believe he can.

Don’t really want mcintosh getting more than 15 touches do we? Rather others have the ball in hand and mcintosh just play to his strengths. Disposal isn’t one of them

I think his disposal issue is a bit overblown. He moves the ball forward and whilst not a creative kick usually hits his targets. Problem is every time he misses one, like they all do (except Sydney Stack), then we remember it. Took Edwards years to shake that tag (although he had a shocker that year so deserved it). Now is just about our best kick... except Sydney Stack.
If he got 20+ numbers regularly he would still be in the side guaranteed.

He's really not a good user, and tbh our whole game plan is built on turnovers and moving the ball quickly laterally then forward.

He's depth at the moment, esp with Stack and Ross to fit in.

Well he is certainly no Vlastuin who is an elite kick, so agree you don't want him replacing Vlas. But off the wing he is solid, and yes very much backup unless by some miracle he starts racking up the numbers in the VFL.

B: Broad, Astbury, Vlastuin
HB: Houli, Grimes, Lambert.
C: Pickett, Cotchin, Edwards.
HF: Stack, Riewoldt, Bolton.
F: Caddy, Lynch, Balta.
R: Soldo,Prestia,Martin.
I: Short, Graham, Chol, Rioli.
EMG: Ross, Higgins, CCJ, Baker

Interesting. Don't mind the look of it.

Why did you settle on Lambert at HB?
