I thought someone had died. Disappointing to see a star missing but they did carry on. Probably first week opening night lack of news excaserbated the story.
It was Richmond beating Carlton as expected in R1. There’s nothing interesting to talk about.

The flag favourites losing a multiple AA key defender for the season in R1 is pretty big news as it has ramifications for the entire comp.

Hasn't got the tank yet and probably lacks a little speed needed off half back. Once Seedsman and Greenwood were out they were bound to play Mackay. Don't agree with it at all. No preseason games you don't play. Simple. I would have picked an unfit Greenwood over Mackay. Even a first gamer in Mchenry who showed something in the 1 match he played would have been a better option. You invest games in the youth when their is not a great deal of difference between 2 players. Especially when that player is 30 and has consistently not delivered when it mattered most. As a club we must move away from players like mackay, douglas, otten etc and start developing the next generation. We are good enough to keep winning games at the same time imo.

Not just a little, a lot.

That said, I'm surprised we're not starting to transitioning Fog to a defender right now. Especially a looser role to see if we could find a way to use that leg in the next couple of years.

Fogarty needs to really step us this year. I feel he was a player surplus to our needs at the time but the club did not want to miss out on. Makes it hard to develop when you are not playing afl but his form doesn't warrant selection. Hoping he comes on along the tom doedee lines.

Just caught the Douglas interview & he mentioned his role has changed this year & he will mainly play as a deep forward... along with the likes of Knight, Murphy, Jones & of course Betts.

Jones to also spend sometime on a wing.

Gather Mackay to play mainly as a wingman in the absence of Seed.

Don't mind him as a deep forward, means we look like we are transitioning him out of the side..... which we should be.

Form of a key forward in our SANFL set up is never going to warrant selection. Much like outside midfielders it's more of a case of just play them if you believe they have it and grit your teeth through their formative years.

I agree he was, and there was enough last year to say we got that call right. That said, the issue is how does he break into the side? You'd just about rule out being a tall forward out no matter how he performs just due to how much salary we have tied up there, and that we're at our max for talls that we can carry. Is he capable of being a midfielder/defender would be what I'd be looking at answering now, or (and i'll rightfully be ripped into here seeing the talent level we're talking about, but it's worth asking the question regardless, seeing how bad the list situation is for Fogarty) do we consider trying to trade him now whilst he has value of being a prospect with a bright future?

There is no point holding onto a prospect like this to season 5 because he may be our future. Our SANFL set up will inevitably ruin him, as being stuck in the 2s will inevitably ruin any player.

& he will still be handy for bursts in the midfield. More midfield depth rotations is a good thing & likes of Sloane & Brouch are handy up forward too.

Wow I thought Nankervis held his own and he isn't that good, Sauce smashed ryder earlier in the year and should have been the AA ruckmen. Not writing off sauce yet, Ruckmen have staying power over any other player although he hasn't looked the same player towards the end of 2017

As for betts lets hope he has found the fountain of youth but I though DHEA was a banned drug, as for looking like firing, when the real stuff starts teams are going to crack down on him not like they do in a trial, like they did in 2018

Tex who knows, he isn't too old but needs to turn around what happened last year

Guess I had the crystal ball out Elite Crow
