QFA Div 1

It is a shame but is for the best in my opinion. Had a big struggle last year and with some of the exits they had this year and judging by one of the videos on their social media looked like it would’ve been again this year. Have to go into Div 2 south surely? Would be ridiculous if they end up in Div 2 north but have seen crazier things.
Most teams pick north it’s where it’s at! Remember Kenmore won the south flag. Nominated for Div 1. Then pulled out. Then lobbed up on the north!

Surely they get sent back to Friday Night Footy. If they have enough numbers for 2 sides and knew they wouldn’t be competitive in Div 1 they should have made request a bit earlier than this.
If numbers for last year were anything to go by they wouldn’t have enough for two sides.

It's absolutely embarrassing to only have seven teams in div one.
If Sandgate didn't go up it would have been six.
The solution to all the problems is easily fixed.
If you don't get 10 clubs willing to play div one next year scrap it.
Just make a north south comp and roll the 7 clubs into that.
Frees up a job of one competition manager.
Only two GF to worry about.
Why continue to flog a comp that isn't growing.

10 teams in div 1 should be the norm. Ever since Maroochydore and Noosa went up and the lower comps went to north and south. Entering Div 1 has all of a sudden become too hard and people are arguing here that if you wanna go Div 1 you must plan for QAFL in the future. Which is absolutely ridiculous. Div 1 should be the best teams in SEQ under the state league. Haven’t had a GC team in div 1 since Burleigh in 2019.

There is no merit in saying it's a pathway for qalf that's just a cop out.

Not much incentive to be in division 1 TBH. It needs to go back to the div1,2,3 and force the GC clubs back in the fold. They seem very cozy not coming up the M1 anymore.

Don’t blame them at all, they’ve got a pretty solid comp down there,I’m sure some blokes wouldn’t mind playing Div 1 but would probably lose more blokes who just don’t want to spend an hour-hour and a half driving each way just for a game of football

Yeah, I agree. Why would they want to change from a handy little comp that they already have. I’m not sure why there isn’t North/South arrangement in Div 1.

QAFL should be by application after meeting strict set criteria, and thereafter North/South by promotion/relegation (not necessarily just based on last years premiers or spoon).

I’m sure the northern rivers teams love it. It seems to be bond,Burleigh, Cooly then the rest.

Don't say that too loudly... :)

100% though - bit of tail wagging the dog atm in who is playing QAFL footy. have heard ppl say "history matters"... Well it actually doesn't imo. What matters is performance in your states #1 competition.

I think saying Div 1 is for clubs aspiring to QAFL is misleading and probably discouraging those GC clubs from entering. If they knew they were heading only as north as Southern Brisbane clubs they may be more open.

History does matter but it doesn’t completely override other performance factors. Now is pretty important too.

Looking at various competitions in metro Melbourne who have a promotion relegation system I think history counts for naught and nor should it bc it could keep some sides in a comp that they are nowhere near suited to performance and demographically but it also keeps other clubs out of contention.

Can imagine things starting to pick up for clubs now in this slightly revamped competition, i havent been keeping upto date much with my Kings making the move to state league.

Any recruits/losses to note which will see teams slide up/down? Any noteable practice match results? Keen to stay in touch with what has always been a greatly competitive competition. How are the Hawks looking? Great to see a historically great club back on the mend no matter how they go this year.

Annual UQAFC vs Redcliffe preseason matchup tmrw up in Dolphinville. Always a good contest, historically been pretty windy and a scrappy affair played in good spirit. Any other preseason action around the grounds? How's Lemke Road after last week? Four weeks till Rd 1..

If only playhq had the preseason games loaded for tomorrow, then we’d all know.
