I think in general there's not enough pressure on key forwards. They'll still be being talked about as developing at 24 but it's like you're ****ing primes over at 30 generally. So you're happy with a bloke giving you 4 odd good years? The bars so low due to the lack of talent around the league this blokes can do **** all for years and still get pats on the back.

Also, I do not miss those Hannan 4 touch, 1 FA games
I don't get the Hannan hate. Played some useful games for us and was involved in one of our greatest ever moments. Could reel off 100 players who've shamed our jumper worse than him. Came from the VFL to play in multiple prelims. Not bad I reckon

Footscrays issue always was the heroin epidemic of the 90's early 00's. Once that sort of finished up, the station got redone and the police station got built next to the station is cleaned up quickly

Some of the shit I saw working in Footscray in the early 00's was pretty intense. Especially with the Asian violence

Now it's the new Brunswick, with the hipsters moving in and still keeping that old run down look

This is true. I also go there a lot because of the Asian and African grocers to get stuff that isn’t routinely offered in the SE where I am, and you can get an abundance of really good, cheap meals at the various restaurants. I had a great Ethiopian breakfast there just a few weeks back.

The place has come a long way from its Foot-scarey days that’s for sure, but the business centre still has a pretty seedy cash economy with high numbers of fraudsters. I used to be an investigator and we spent a fair amount of time there. Was pretty funny really. You would go interview a person of interest who would bullshit their head off, then go back two days later to find the business boarded up and a for lease sign taped to the window. Good times!

It is insane how boring dogs games are. Surge the ball forward with little pussy ass outside types then grow ya hair and throw ya neck back as hard as you can to get Free kicks inside 50. It's also why we will always best them
It’s funny but I struggle to watch the whole grand final because of this. Second quarter and half the third loses me not because they were on top but because the game gets tedious. Chip and switch, go down the outside, deliver it forward any old how and hope that the ensuing ground ball scrabble will yield opportunities for a lucky snap or a nice free. Horribly tedious to watch. I’ve never understood why some commentators used to go on about their brand being sexy or watchable. It’s dull.

Worst part is why would they change, they get like 10 Free kicks within 20m of goal a game. Koz doesn't get a quarter of the Free kicks the dogs blokes get it's nuts to me

I dunno mate I used to train in from the west around 2014, seen some wild shit from footscray through to sunshine

I grew up and spent my kid and teenage years in the Sunshine/Footscray/Newport areas. So I guess from my perspective what they are today is so much better than 20+ years ago, so they seem pretty normal to me. I guess if you weren't exposed to it and come through now your view would be different.

I remember in the early 00's when you walked under the underpass at Sunshine station you would look up on the roof and see all of the syringes from the junkies. Or the toilets in Footscray station having blue lighting of a night time so the junkies couldn't shoot up in there. The amount of times I got asked if I was chasing around Footscray station was insane. I saw a bloke get stabbed over a can of chrome at Sunshine station on the way home from school at like 4pm in the arvo one day, madness to think about it now

The junkies I would see around Footscray station and pools when I worked there in the early 00's was crazy. But you get used to it and know the street smarts of how to navigate around it. Footscray still has some dodgy elements today but nothing on the level it was

Having said that, I still ****ing hate Sunshine

I never visited this side of town before I lived here but you can still see a lot of its history and character. If I could afford to buy in Altona I'd never want to leave but can't justify buying a 250m2 town house with no backyard since we bought a Bernese Mountain Dog. I love Yarraville, the Ballarat/Anderson st shops are such a cool little nook of Melbourne that still feels hidden away to most even though its right next to the train line.

Altona North doesn't appeal to me at all. Ages from train lines and the shops are all pretty ordinary. Millers Junction is useful but an absolute concrete jungle. No decent cafes or restaurants anywhere in walking distance, barely any parks or trails to take the dog on a walk. Still, it's proximity to the inner west is pushing prices right up.

We'll probably end up moving further out when we buy. Since working from home looks to be the new normal I'm pretty open to moving further away from Melbourne, so it just comes down to how far my fiancee is open to driving to get to her work. Lara/South Geelong suburbs our most likely destination.

Anderson Street is amazing, that is where Wog Boy was filmed. Hasn't changed much over the years except the food places are a lot nicer. Hencho Mexican is bloody awesome, so is the Sun theatre

I love Millers junction, but that may have more to do with my love of Taco Bell more than anything

It was never Foot-scary it was Footscray-zy

The sign as you drive past Whitten oval on Gordan street and hook on to Geelong Road was an icon for 10+ years lol

Sunshine has a big cash economy as does Footscray still today

Don't hate Hannan at all, actually really liked him when he played for us. Like you said, had some huge clutch moments. But he also has a bad habit of going missing and is ultimately a tease. For every clutch moment there's about 6-8 games where he has 4 or 6 touches. We're a much better team with our crop of small/medium forwards now and I'm glad we let Hannan walk. Would take a Spargo 4 or 6 touches over Hannan's tbh

100%, I still like Mitch, will always remember his Elimination Final goal resulting in Chris Scott's face looking like hes been sucking a lemon.

We traded him, not like he wanted to leave us. Got nothing against him.

**** Jeremy Howe far more.

Hannan requested a trade because he wasn't getting a game which was fair enough but he did want out.

The JUH thing is crazy.

It's like the media has swung so far the other way after the Watts bashing that they're fawning over basic 1%ers. He did look to play with a lot more intensity than his other games, but it's now at basically a bare minimum you'd expect from any key forward in the league.

Not a very interesting sub-plot within a game - fawning over a key forward bringing the ball to ground and maybe applying some pressure at ground level. Then again the standard last night was shite.

#1 pick plays a game similar to what Aidan Pig Riley would for us 7 years ago. What a performance!

I loved that guy, what a beacon in an otherwise shit era.
He was a battler. It's funny how we look back on shit players fondly. I do the same. Bugg one of my all time favs.

I dunno there's something to having a crack and being memorable that's endearing. Daniel Cross might be my favourite all time 2 year Dee's player

Cross was actually good tho, Riley was pretty terrible mate.

Afl.com doing a write up on Ugle Hagan's game in the match report. Smh.
