We clearly have different views on when a players prime is.
IMO it's 23-27 years old
Your comment "Middle of his prime" infers that you think his prime is somewhat later.

J Riewoldt is 33yo
J Kennedy is 34yo
N Riewoldt retired 2017 aged 33
Q Lynch retired 2014 aged 31
T Cloke retired 2017 aged 30
J Brown retired 2014 aged 31

Some KPF last into their mid 30's while others struggle in their early 30's

I reckon most KPF prime years are 23 to 29.
Obviously there are exceptions and many still play quality footy from 30 to 33.

Brown and Cloke bodies were shot due to the way the crash and bash style.

Kennedy, Reiwoldts x2 etc types much more leading types with occasional pack crash.

There's massive untapped potential in Lukosius. As was highlighted by one or two in the media, he just doesn't have the ferocity at the contest right now, nor seem to have the willingness to chase and harrass and do all the 1%ers that would take someone with his talent and make him a star. My question would be, is it the environment up at the Gold Coast or is the player the problem?

I'd back our new coaching group to get more from him, but I reckon the Suns would sadly want more for him than what his performances warrant.

But he's yet to re-sign so I'd be surprised if we hadn't done our due diligence and had a word with his manager, just to see if there's any interest from his end.

Or you know, god forbid, Dekka could finally pick an elite junior KPP in the draft (I'm looking at you Aaron Naughton) and back our development team.

Some just don't have the fire in the belly, Jack Watts is a prime example.

25 games, 38 goals since 2020. Solid numbers. His rookie form is irrelevant.

He is not a main man forward and solves very little for us, is another stop gap.
We already have Krueger and Cameron for that.

Mihocek is great at what he does but he too can be shut out to starring from week to week by better defences. Would benefit hugely if we had a genuine KPF taking the best defender from him.

I know it's a lot of expense for not much more impact. McStay is way more mobile than Cameron and without seeing stats I reckon he makes more contests and is better at halfing them. But yeah do you pay the free agency tax (6yrs, 600k) to lure him away for that minute extra output? I don't think so.

He is an upgrade on Cameron but as you state, is it worth it?

Alex Pearce from Freo? Gun KPD, 26 years old and apparently a free agent this year (could be wrong?).

Roughead is likely in his last year or so... Would be handy to have Moore & Pearce as our KPD....

Both he and Logue are OOC at the end of this season. I believe Pearce is a free agent.

Would love either of them, if possible

Not just halving contests I'm a little over Collingwood especially espousing we don't need players who mark it just contest it. Started back with Dawes and his volley ball trampoline hands.

Give me a duo like Taz and Rocca in 02 and 03, with your Didaka and Davis' at their feet over anything we have fielded since.

Throw me a freakin’ bone here, I did say halving contests “at the very least”!

He was fine…until he stepped onto the MCG Queens Birthday 2009.
Mauled by 4 Collingwood players.

That was literally his first touch of the ball in his first game of AFL iirc, so he was fine until… he actually walked on the field?

Contested marks isn't the issue. The reality is that two contested marks a game over a season gets you into or very close to the top 10 in the league for contested marks. Cameron does that. Bringing the ball to ground when disadvantaged by the kick and taking uncontested marks is the difference between Cameron and good KPFs - that and what they can offer in terms of ground level game/pressure.

He’s to injury prone for me. Done a knee and has serious ankle issues. We don’t have a good track record for injury management

Couldn't agree more and that is the huge risk with committing to a player outside your group... You're dedicating cap space and picks to bringing in a bloke when there are unknowns. It's a gamble.

Amen.

Hit the draft the team is in rebuild mode despite what people might think.

Sidebottom, Pendlebury, Howe, Roughead. Some absolutely massive holes are going to appear in our list over the next two to three years. I absolutely agree and I want us to be methodical and get it right over time, primarily through the draft. We just have to be patient.

I’m not for trading in KPF’s realistically because for them to be really good you’re looking at the ones seemingly not available and that would invariably cost us a DeGoey now that we have Grundy and Moore locked away on big long term deals.

The other option is to go for another Kreuger type that we think is way undervalued which won’t cost us much, either cap or pick wise.

The solution as many have mentioned is to recruit one with our first pick. If we do that the minimum expectations for me are 195+ and aggression. I don’t want to spend a first rounder on a watts, schache, lukocious type that isn’t going to hit a pack.

Another possibility might be to spend up on a midfield Fab Four similar to when West Coast had: Cousins, Judd, Kerr & Embley. And Brisbane had: Voss, Black, Akermanis and Lappin. Might be easier to get than elite tall forwards.

Would anyone entertain Aaron Francis - Who is out of contract - as a cheap trade in as a key defender?

I certainly would on a cheapish deal within the pick 40's

Should've mentioned Swan, Pendlebury, Ball & Beams too. They were pretty fab in 2010.
