Player Watch #4 Dustin Martin GOAT and King of Punt Rd - OFFICIALLY RETIRED

Fancy the media attacking a guy for not wanting to talk to them while grieving and having a mental health crisis. they have rocks in their head.

For those saying we should trade him to gws or syd to try and rebuild off his value, i have been very pro doing this with certainly older players we have like Prestia etc. However Dusty is not a player i would ever considering doing this with.

Much like Jack, Trent & Grimes - these boys will stay and retire 1 club Tiger greats. Its very important to our history i think
The media especially the AFL broadcasters are grubs

Anyone else hear Peggy talk about Dusty yesterday? I'm pretty confident he's staying with us... Article

"We have him for two more years and I haven't heard a word about that. Undoubtedly he likes getting away and getting out of the fishbowl from time to time but he loves this club and he loves this team," O'Neal said.

"Not that long ago he said to me 'I'll never be in anything but yellow and black' and so I'll hold him to that.

"For the next two years I'm certain that we can continue to watch Dustin play for the Tigers."

Pfffffft, what would she know. Tom and others have “sources”.

Nobody is saying "we should trade him to gws or syd", and I certainly don't want that implication from my posts. I want Dusty to be a Tiger for life, and even if his form drops off a bit I would happily re-sign him for another couple of years beyond his current contract to ensure that.

What they are saying is "in the event that Dustin Martin chooses to leave Tigerland". This is not an impossibility, and Richmond have clearly shown a proclivity over the last 3 or 4 years to facilitate a smooth move for those who want out. I would expect the club would do this for Dusty if he chooses, albeit quite begrudgingly.

It's just throwing around some ideas in the unlikely event that Dusty makes that decision. You reckon the Hawks supporters wanted Buddy to leave? And when he decided to do so, they were snookered by free agency and got approximately 1/30th of his worth. At least if Dusty is still under contract when he chooses to leave we'd get to cash in, again very begrudgingly.

Could Sydney pull off another heist and land one of the biggest names in the AFL to wear the red and white?
The Sydney Swans are believed to have begun secret talks with Martin’s high profile manager Ralph Carr about a potential move north to the harbour city and a new multi million dollar deal.
The club is keeping the talks at arms length but are keen not to miss their window of opportunity.

But a major sticking point in landing the Richmond triple premiership player is money and the bulging Swans salary cap.
A Martin insider said “talks are preliminary at this stage as there are a lot of moving parts but there’s little doubt Dusty wants to live in Sydney”.
Martin’s current pay packet at Punt Road is in the vicinity of $1.4 million a season and it would take similar numbers to get him to Sydney.
Standing in Martin’s way is Swans champion Buddy Franklin and his seven-year deal at Tigerland.
Franklin wants to play on next year and is pushing for another contract offer but it appears money will be a sticking point
Martin has long held a desire to play football in Sydney and enjoy the lifestyle of relative anonymity it would bring.
He’s said to have even been eyeing off a home to add to his property portfolio.
A group of influential friends and advisers are looking to steer the Tigers’ champ into a multimillion-dollar property in Sydney’s affluent east, coincidentally a stone’s throw from the SCG.

He still has two-and-a-half years to run on his deal at Tigerland which the club may ask him to honour.
But it may also consider the fame and fortune he has made the club in ticket sales, merchandise, sponsors and TV ratings as time served. Not to mention the three premierships.
Martin could table his mental health as a defining factor in any decision to move to the Swans.
He enjoys flying under the radar in the NRL mad state which allows him to be himself.
The daily trip to the local cafe in Melbourne has become a chore for Martin with fans staring, talking or requesting photo and paparazzi on the hunt for exclusive pictures.
He has a wide and varied group of friends north of the border which includes former NRL stars Sony Bill Williams and Paul Gallen as well as some big name businessmen.
Martin took time away from the game after personal issues engulfed him, sparking fears he would hang up the boots for good.
But the Sydney move could prove the perfect tonic to keep Dusty in the game, and happy.

I heard the interview on 3AW.
Peggy is a class act. Brilliantly understated, measured, intelligent but with a strong sense of what is right.
I’m incredibly grateful she’s our president.
Runs rings around Kennett, McChins, Koch, etc.

Oh fu** me, the same Tony Sheahan who claimed Dusty was retiring 2 months ago?
Bit of a weird article

Essentially all it says is Sydney are enquiring about getting Dusty over

I mean no ****ing shit
If Sydney or any other club weren’t asking the question you would be asking a lot of questions about how the club is run

Wasn;'t saying you mate - but there are some here saying it would be crazy if we didn't do it if Tom Green was on the table. I am normally all for not being sentimental, but not with he, Jack & Cotchin. Rance was also on that last. Why i was so passionate about people saying he might comeback to another team.

I would not see Tom Green as a nice"silver lining" if this happened - i would see it as a very sad end to our dynasty pantheon

Wasn't saying your post specifically tho, not at all. Know enough about you by now that wouldn't be the case

What i will say though is supporters, entertaining or spitballing the idea is not healthy. If the player is having thoughts about leaving and see's/hears the fans suggesting it might be best for both as Tom Green is a young stud etc, it starts to validate their thought process &. start thinking "well maybe it is best for both parties". When we hear even unfounded rumours that Dusty might be Syd bound, we should be a united front of **** NO - he is ours, he is our GOAT, TIGER FOR LIFE

Correct, no different to us asking questions of Tom Greene etc. Where’s Tonys article on that?
But again, this is the same FW’s whose mail had Dusty retiring 2 months ago. He’s a deadset loser. Not even worth my time to be honest.

Exactly , regurgitated lines from Archives

I have to say, I read between the lines a lot in my line of work, I was a little concerned during Carr's interview about dusty coming back. He did not mention the Tigers once. Now the full interview may have been edited and I could be wrong. But I am pretty good at judging these things.

EDIT. OH and what i was meant to post is....
How good is it seeing Dusty sprinkle some magic dust around the pitch? That's what makes him special, he has brute and finesse at the same time.

There is no amount of picks/players a club could throw our way that would satisfy me for losing Dusty. If he isn’t our greatest ever player, he is at a minimum top 3. ****ing savour every moment you get watching this guy play.

Can we stop filling this thread with bullshit trade scenarios and hypotheticals. Take that rubbish to the trades thread.

What a ****ing grubby campaigner Sheahan is! Now Dusty has mental health issues? What because he is grieving?

No chance he’s worth two firsts at his age and the money his contract is reported to be

Geelong gave up two 2nd round picks and got Ablett and a 4th round pick back

Would probably say Dusty would have similar value
Rubbish, first Dusty's 2 years younger and on 2 years to go,
And histories only grand final machine at a great successful club and swans in their window, with Dusty not going for anything less than 3-4 contract which would be 2 firsts,we are talking the greatest ever finals player with
3 Garry Ayers medals
3 norm Smith medals.
But it's all a fabrication unless T71 says different.

Yeah, the previous dusty thread was also filled with the trade rumours in 2017. Literally 0 discussion about his performances. I know it’s relevant to the player but seriously this is getting boring

Hyperthetical Say Dusty did request a trade at the end of the season to the Swans what it change the perspective you have of him?
Never, what he has given me as a supporter personally after close to 30 years of being near the bottom, I could never begrudge this man... he has given me the best 5 years since winning our flags, in my eyes, he is the goat
