For real? Surely this is a beat up, couldn't be that many players from a team that have this level of bigotry.

If not then a bit sad. No problem wearing a guernsey that promotes gambling (yes, I know I gamble, not judging), but no way will we wear a guernsey that shows support towards the LGBTQ groups.

what do you expect from that code? afl players are pretty dumb but nrl is a whole new level of dumb. most can barely string a few sentences together.

some pretty smart blokes in the afl

pretty sure stef had neurosurgeon level marks in high school

dont know how far along we are in terms of lgbt inclusion in footy tbh. as far as im aware there has yet to be an openly gay / bisexual player at the top level

the only prominent lgbt figure i can think of in afl is dani laidley, and they transitioned after pretty much leaving football entirely

Didn't one of our ex players become a scientist or something?

And it doesn't surprise me that a number of NRL players are homophobic. Probably runs rampant through the fans as well. QLD has the rep of being a redneck wonderland

A lot of the Polynesian players have been indoctrinated into very retrograde beliefs.

The sad thing is most actually fall in with their specific groups only after joining the NRL.

Couldn't help it. Made me think of this.

Edit: To be fair though, even Bob Katter seems to be more inclusive than the Manly players, as long as we sort out the croc attacks at the same time.

How hard is it for them to wrap their heads around the concept that acknowledging the right for previously marginalised groups to exist and have basic human rights doesn’t necessarily imply a personal endorsement of their actions.

Once again, some Christians prove to be very unChristlike.

I've never been convinced that christians and Christ have anything in common outside a few letters.

Same thing happened in AFLW with a Giants player last year, just a different religion.

So it’s not like it hasn’t happened before in “our” code.

Might even happen at our club in a couple of years. You never know.

A friend was once at a trivia night and there were a team called The Christ Ians. He talked to them afterwords - was a team made up of 3 devout guys named Ian/Iain. Plus one agnostic dude called Gavin.

An atheist may say the bolded could be extrapolated out to any belief in an omnipresent, all knowing, judgmental deity no matter what ethnic background.

Choosing not to actively endorse a lifestyle that is against their beliefs (and wearing a gay pride flag/jumper/shirt etc is a personal endorsement) is not the same as being anti-gay. To say that if you are not actively for us you are actively against us is lacking in the tolerance and diversity stakes in and of itself. A Christian can, without hypocrisy, be completely tolerant of the choices people make outside of their religion and equally staunch in their belief that such choices are against the expressed will of their God and leave the consequences of those choices between the ones making them and God without their getting in the way. The right to choose to be gay comes with it the right to choose not to be gay and the right to choose to be Christian or Islamic both of which do not have the option for their adherents to engage in homosexual acts. You cannot, legitimately, demand the right to role-model one lifestyle choice and ban the right to role-model another lifestyle choice.

TLDR - choosing not to personally endorse their actions does not breach their right to exist or have basic human rights (one of which btw traditionally is freedom of religion/belief.

I don't believe anybody "chooses" to be gay.... or straight. Your sexual orientation is innate IMO.

That is awfully certain briz, you may be the first in human history who can definitively prove the existence of an omnipresent, all knowing, judgmental creator who provides a residence for souls on physical death.
It’s the word you missed repeating from your original post that is the key.

Belief.

What you’re talking about are belief systems. And there are many under the Christian umbrella.

Not everyone who believes in Alah or God is hard core, Old Testament, etc.

There are Pride churches. There are Muslims who accept others for who they are and don’t judge (out loud at least).

I don’t know enough about different religions to comment further, other than I know people who call themselves religious and believe in a single deity and are LGBQ+(and I don’t remember all the letters).

I do know there are a lot of Islanders who play RL that come from the same church as Israel Falou, and for a RL team management/ownership to be so blind about their own players is the story to me.

How in the almighty could a management team be so ignorant about a quarter of their list? That they wouldn’t discuss things first, before going public.
