Zero confidence leading into this game.

If we want to show we are better than a 4-6th placed team it would be a good time to show it. That MCG monkey will turn into a gorilla. If we somehow manage to get on a run, we will most likely have to play at the G twice in the finals even before the GF.

We look perfectly primed for a lose QF, win SF, lose PF finish to the year. And that’s being pretty optimistic.

Daniel Rich will miss Brisbane’s Round 20 clash against Richmond under concussion protocol.

The 32-year-old was subbed out in the last quarter of Brisbane’s win over the Suns following a collision with Levi Casboult.

Meanwhile, youngsters Carter Michael and Tom Berry’s seasons are sadly over after both sustained shoulder injuries in the VFL over the weekend.

The pair went for scans which confirmed damage to their shoulders, with the two undergoing surgery today.

In better news for Lions fans, Keidean Coleman could make himself available for selection as early this weekend, pending main training on Thursday morning.

I hope we embrace the tag negating role. I understand there are coaching philosophies that abhor a tag and feel your best midfield should beat their midfield (ala Hinkley/Buckley logic). However, I have always admired Cameron at the Giants for using negating roles well. I was so sick of seeing Touk (and to a lesser extent Ellis) loose behind a stoppage only for Rowell/Anderson to spill the ball towards him for a damaging clearance. It was great to see Berry clamping Touk in the 4th quarter to stop all that metres gained. I hope we play Berry on Bolton at stoppages and handover to Starcevich in the defensive end (or have Starcevich play a full run-with role with him. We cannot let him loose for that special Trent Cotchin not-incorrect-disposal trademark drop.

Balta killed us before playing in defence as an interceptor. Hope Balta plays forward instead. The way to beat Lynch/Reiwoldt is to simply starve them of opportunities. Win contested ball and take territory. We simply cannot let them stroll through the front side of stoppages like we did with Gold Coast. Lukoscious/Miller/Anderson delivering bullets to Casboult/Chol was horrific for 3 quarters. I dont want to imaging what Lynch would do to us if he gets that level of service
It's crazy to me when team won't have someone play a tagging role. It's all well and good to say you want your midfield to win h2h against there's but sometimes guys have a day out or you just don't have anyone who can win the ball as well as their best mid etc. I also think that tagging is a great tool to use for young players who aren't quite as experienced/polished as you would like. You learn what great midfielders do around the ground and at stoppages etc if you are tagging them every week. Andy Braywshaw IIRC was playing a tagging/negating role against Gaff when Gaff had his brainfade. Brayshaw is arguably the best two way runner in the game and I'm sure he owes part of that to playing negating roles against great players.

At this stage I'm taking my daughter to this game - we have been to probably 10 or so games and we have never seen a win together...... this is our last trip experience.... :)

I took her to the Melb game earlier in the year....kids month....said car park would be open , so a 2 hr 30min drive became a 4 hour drive, took 1 hour to get around half of the G (up punt road and wellington) only to be told that car park was full ( no signs anywhere -can imagine how i am feeling now).....had to park in the city and download some magical app to park there. Then we walked to the ground to find there was 1000's of free car parks.........We missed the whole first quarter (only time we touched the ball all game apparently) and then had to watch us get thrashed and humiliated. Walked half way out of the ground to find my daughter left her coat inside - so went back and got it. Walking back to the car - she dropped her scarf - so had to walk back and find that we got home at 1.30 am.......but we had a ball. Had to get something out of it even if was just some lovely bonding time together (and a cheeky chocolate shake at 12.30am on the way home).

Moral of the story - its not looking good for us! hahaha
Just as an FYI for anyone driving into the MCG, they do give decent updates on whether the parking will be open or not. Really it all depends on how much rain in the week before.

At the moment with a rainy week it doesnt look like there will be much open this week:

Now why would I do such an evil thing!

I remember at one point there was a group of posters who were 100% totally negative - if they couldn't say something nice they wouldn't say anything at all. During Game Day threads they would be all over it while we were behind and literally type nothing when we took the lead through to when we were behind again and then would magically pop back in to provide their 'constructive' criticism. If we won not a post in the review thread ... if we lost all over it like hungry locusts.

Some are no more, some continued to ply their trade on Main and other boards after being banned from this one, and some it seems moved through the phase and now provide more balanced content (although not such as would ever get them accused of being a Pollyanna!)

Suffice to say our friend may not be the most positive poster around here** but he is no Grima Wormtoungue or Depressed Robot.

Is it just me or others as well who get so tired of the consistent negativity thrown out by some? Sure there is times when they(The club & or coach's & players) deserve a prod with something electric, but generally I want to support my team not drag them down whenever I can. It's also much more enjoyable to celebrate a win rather than criticize it wasn't good enough and search out situations that give them an opportunity to put s**t on them.

We are 3rd on the ladder (equal 2nd on points) with only 4 rounds of footy left to complete before finals....AND WE ARE PLAYING FINALS!!!

I dont always think glass 1/2 full but there is so much more glass half full opportunities for us as supporters this year than glass 1/2 empty but you wouldn't know that if you read our BF Board much......and I promise you it's much more fun to enjoy the success of this club rather than wallow in the few disappointment's they have delivered.

Personally I'm sick of the positivity. The world needs more reasons to feel negative if you ask me!

SLIDING DORKS:

If… Brisbane are any hope of winning this week

Then… they need to play four bloody quarters of football, at the MCG; not let the opposition walk out of the middle with the pill every other centre bounce, and tag Bolton.
I gather this is your version?

The disaster ones are the ones you remember, and usually fondly.

Your daughter will likely remember that long after memories of wins you attend together have faded

at least thats the impression i get on the rare occasions i delve into the sewers that are the comments there
Bad enough here.
Honestly we have had a lot of guys up and down a lot of the year.
Each week someone different has a cold game.. One of the reasons we been up and down as well.
not singling out players as others do.
Would I like to try a 2 tall forward line so we do not leak as much yes
Also would not mind a 2 ruck setup which mean 3 talls again :)
So what do I know I cannot even agree with myself :)

I could not agree more, it has been shitfull in here as of late. We sitting 3rd on the ladder and will play finals. We win and people still just not pick any negatives they can find. Like when Joe pulls off a clever smother and goal and you get ‘how is that not a free kick’. Adam’s doesn’t kick the ball like Daniel Rich, why did we get rid of Ben Keays, Oscar is no good, how do we let Casboult take contested marks(like he doesn’t do it
every week), Lyons has gone
Downhill (close to all Australian last year), I could go on. I don’t know what people expect, it’s the AFL you dont walk all over teams. Would swear we sitting 13th with some of the crap in here.

Will be interesting to see if Tommy gets another contract from us now though (Post 2022+).

If he doesn’t, I can see playing quite consistently for a lower ranked team like Adelaide | West Coast | North Melbourne.

Regardless though, it’s really bad luck for both Tommy & Carter from suffering end of season shoulder injuries and fingers crossed they both have a successful recovery from it (come next year).

Perhaps our resident psych (Haso ) would like to explain Battered Lions Supporter Syndrome to you ... some of them even have Extreme Complex BLSS (having been supporters of Fitzroy or the Bears as well) ... if you focus on the negatives then at least you have something to hang on to / be right about - kind of like the folks who bet $10 on the opposition ... if we lose at least they win the bet and if we win then yay and it only cost them $10 :)

Footy supporters are notorious in criticism of their own players . Particularly when they get some success ironically.

What we see here is mild in comparison to some other clubs.

When I used to stand in the outer as a kid you'd swear some supporters wanted the opposition to win so they could whinge even more about the players/coach/club.

I remember in the '70's there was an old guy who got the same spot in front of the stand every week. We nicknamed him Murphy the Dog .Because every time Murphy , who was our best player by a country mile , went near the ball he'd scream out 'you're a dog Murphy ,an absolute dog' and other unmentionable things . The truth was he loved Murphy .But it was tough love.

People have frustrations and let off steam. I wouldn't take it too seriously.

When I first got taken to the footy as a nipper I watched Fitzroy lose every game bar one. For 3 years.

And I loved every one of those players, I can remember their numbers , the goals they kicked. Not that there were too many.

It's a bit of a conundrum that I love our current players who are much better in nearly every respect less . You get a bit cynical as you get older.

If we had supporters like that at any of the clubs I was playing/volunteering for, we would have moved them on.

Come on Mighty Lions . Lighten up.

You know there are supporters like that everywhere. At every club.

I don't know how you propose to move people n and only have the ones you want.

Maybe some but not all.
Its so much more enjoyable to support a team positively even if they lose every game like you did for 3 years. I look at the Saints board and they are so much more positive than our board.....Saints have won 1 premiership!!!
I also think people believe our team should win the flag every year when the fact is premierships are extremely hard to win even if you have a side worthy on their day...its just not that easy.

I know it doesn’t have to be positive all the time but seriously, letting steam off about what? Winning?
