Another cracking Cornes quote.

'One of the worst AFL sides ever... just ahead of North Melbourne on the ladder'

So, WCE one of the worst teams ever, but not even the worst this year...

You cant argue with it… with the supposed talent in our side we shouldn’t be last but here we are… we have won 4 out of 30 odd games with almost half the side most weeks being premiership players or guys with 100 plus games… its not good enough

We've won less games than Essendon when they had half their list banned and less games than GC in their first year.

We're one of the worst AFL sides ever.

Sure I can argue with it. I just did. Therefore it can be argued with.

I just found it funny that this guys job is to comment on the footy, and my year 9s complete better presentations to the class.

'Nice effort Kane but try not to immediately contradict yourself when presenting arguments.

Also you cannot 'reference' yourself'

Go check our injury list from this year. We have not had a lot of talent in the side

Half our list has been injured for most of the year. It's probably a similar situation to Essendon that year.

Agree. We cant keep pulling out excuses like player availablity and covid.

We've had enough games from shuey, kelly, redden, cripps, etc.

I cant see how all 3 of hurn, shuey and redden can go on next year and if all 3 do then the pain will just extend another 2 years.

Some more love for TB in The Tackle.

7. Tommy gun

And again, West Coast fans will know and footy media should know — and All Australian selectors absolutely will know — but Tom Barrass is a gun defender. It was wet in the west on Saturday night and that might explain Barrass’ opponent Rory Lobb only taking two marks and kicking 0.1.

But that doesn’t explain how Barrass can take 12 marks, including nine intercept marks. Since Round 14 — that’s nine games — Barrass has taken 48 intercept marks and the next best is Sydney’s Paddy McCartin on 29.

McCartin has a legion of admirers in the media who put his name up for All Australian and deservedly so. But Barrass’ performance this year is even better. He’s played in a team which has won two games, and he’s been far and away the best player at the Eagles.

As for the AA team, I’d go Sam Taylor, Barrass, Tom Stewart, James Sicily and then take two picks from Jack Sinclair, Angus Brayshaw, Nick Daicos, Dan Rioli, Brayden Maynard, Bailey Dale, Jordan Dawson, Sam Docherty and Adam Saad.

West Coast’s salary cap squeeze has been laid bare, with the two-win Eagles spending nearly half their money on just seven players - five of which are 30 or older.

According to the Herald Sun’s 100-player rich list, the Eagles are estimated to be spending more than $6m of their $13m cap on Jeremy McGovern, Andrew Gaff, Tim Kelly, Jack Darling, Elliot Yeo, Luke Shuey and Nic Naitanui alone.

Shuey and Naitanui are out of contract this year, McGovern next year, then Darling and Gaff in 2024.

I swear these pelicans don't understand how the cap works. It's not a cap squeeze when old players are nearing the end. If McGovern is on $1.1m (I doubt he is) then this time next year then we'll be under the cap floor unless we re-sign him, all other things being equal.

Lobb has played injured since hurting his shoulder against Sydney a month ago and I suspect he's pulling a 2007 Judd (clearly injured and should take time off however is leaving at the end of the season so he'll play through the pain to compensate). Barrass played well but context needed imo.
He wouldn’t be in AA contention if he blanketed Lobb on the back of unremarkable form.

His last month+ has been the best football of his career and as good as any Eagles defender has put out, which is pretty remarkable given we’ve sent three different defenders to the All Aus team in the last four years.

As above, Barrass has taken 19 more intercept marks than the next best since round 14.

I hardly call that a one off.

Jesus. That's 65% better than second place. That's almost lapping the field.

For context, this is the same Lobb that kicked 4.2 goals and took 7 marks the week before in a dominant display against the Dogs.

Lobb = Judd

And here I thought JON was the next Judd

Robbo reckons they (Bombres) got Clarko in bag.....exciting
No way, that place is a worse basket-case than North.
In 15 years they are on their 5th coach and if they sack Rutten it'll make their 6th Coach since Sheedy.
Only one of those coaches got past 100 games coached and that was Woosha who was maligned pretty much the entire way through his tenure.
They are on their 7th Club President in the last 15 years, 3x since 2020.
