NK Bests

Sam Grant, Patrick Dozzi, Jason McCormick, William Green, Flynn Riley

As I suspected, most of his disposals came in the first half. 16 and a goal in the first half before 5 in the 3rd and 2 in the last.
He has been out injured for a while so probably ran out of gas in the last qtr - fair enough.

Professionalism I guess.

But if you know you're gonna get picked up through the academy/FS selection....it's not big deal if you don't do the combine.

Have North 100% committed to taking Cooper?

At any cost?

Is any other club looking at Cooper?
If he wasn’t son of Brent where would he be landing.
I just look at Archer, Scott and Crocker and after what West Coast did to McDonald, did we pay fair value for all?

Let's be clinical here.

Scott was potentially taken a bit later than rated.

Archer and Crocker were rookie grade selections although its nice they got to join the main list. A club like Hawthorn would've let them slide to the rookie draft with no guarantees IMO.

McDonald had a bit of a rep but we showed our hand to the world 2 years ahead of schedule in the worst game of draft table poker in history.

Gonna guess that Cooper wouldn't be in our focus without the connection.

I think Scott was good value as you said.
Archer easily we could have rookied and Crocker was a nice kid but we never should have drafted him based on the good bloke principle and his dad being much loved around the club.

And then after being burnt by not being able to get Kelly we wanted Luke to be that top 10 pick who would drag us back out of the September wilderness and into glory and Simmo saw us coming from a mile away.
In fairness we should have finished much higher than 10th in 2013 and going into the draft with pick 13-14 rather than pick 8 and it should have seen us trade it or whatever.
Romanticism needs to be cast aside and objectivity is needed. We’ll take him but let’s not get Northed in the process.

That's a good point about our 2013 position. As I've often said that was our best year under Scott (hell our best year post-2007/8) in terms of football quality. By rights we should've finished in that bottom part of the 8.

Instead we screwed too many wins up, finished with a few good scalps and a strong % but paradoxically still had a good draft pick to show for it.

It was so North Melbourne then that our coveted top 10 pick would then get burn it up in a father-son bid.

Fwiw the bidding process that year occurred before trading so had we finished with pick 13+ clubs wouldn't have gained that much by forcing our hand.

Is SOB the crafty/nippy small forward we are after or is he more of a mid that can go forward?

If the former he would be very useful and could get senior experience quite quickly - if the latter and we go with a mid with pick 1 then he will be about number 8 in line for a spot.

I just don’t buy this whole ‘we were played’ narrative wrt LMac.

He was a very highly rated junior, a Larke medalist, well inside the top ten of most draft predictions. WC wouldn’t have bid on him unless they were prepared to take him - I don’t think any club plays games with this kind of thing.

The fact that he has had a solid career without reaching the heights we all hoped for is not an unusual occurrence for a draftee.

A lot of it is because of the behind the scene stuff with contracts and the Mcdonald family.

In essence the club made the call to have him train at the club weekly in 2013 and he pulled on the jumper in the VFL for Weribee. We were all in and it counted against us in the end. Cripps was still on the table, hindsight and all.

It’s no surprise the bidding process was changed as back then west coast nominated a month before the draft they were keen on McDonald.
Realty is we should have called their bluff and said enjoy as their pick 6 ended up with Collingwood who took Sharenberg whilst they got pick 11 and took - yep Dom Sheed. The fact he won’t them a flag against the Pies is amazing. They ****ing aced this draft.

You would've seen the same articles I saw, we had McDonald's family basically **** over Archer's agency then have their new agency bend us over a barrel.

Hate to keep comparing to a peak Clarkson era Hawthorn (hey what's he up to these days??) but imagine a parent, even one working at the club having tried that little move with Clarkson and Graham Wright?

The words "**** off!" would've been heard all the way from China.

It’s why father-sons romanticism needs to be cooled some what in the kids draft year.
Our luck is just shithouse.
Mark plays 32 games for the club and produces a gun wingmen premiership player who could go back to back and another who will be a club champion and a future hall of famer. He even produced a 3rd just in case the other 2 turned out shit. 32 ****ing games!!
That on top of Kelly whose wasting out his years in Sydney and others like Spargo who fills a need. It does my head in that Melbourne have a Brayshaw, Spargo and a Pickett running around for them. Like f*** off
And then there’s JWS🙇🏻‍♂️

McDonald, Scott and Archer are a decent crop but wouldn’t hold a candle close enough to the ones playing footy at other clubs. Add in Crocker and it just makes for miserable reading.
