Review Something Something HOW ****ING GOOOD - Week 1 Finals Review

After watching the mini-match, I feel that:

  • We were quite good in close quarters all game
  • We had a combination of deer in headlights/inexperience when we had to go forward or take a shot on goal early on (similar vibes to 2013)
  • The umpiring was horrendously bad and missed calls both ways - though the dogs definitely got more called for them and fewer called against them
  • Serong and Brayshaw played like 28 year olds with a few finals series' under their belts
  • Amiss was playing like a 100+ game forward (bear in mind Tabs is only on 100-odd games)
  • The crowd was stunned and silent early on inspite some of the better efforts of a few of us to gee everyone else up (in my block alone there were a few of us who were hoarse before we even got our first goal)
  • The commentary took it to a whole new level of ineptitude. When we hit the front no-one said a thing - just stunned silence (okay, we were all pretty stunned, but FMD there was no excitement or surprise)
  • Treloar is an absolute campaigner. Noticed it at the game but the replay showed it even more. That mercenary deserves nothing, regardless of how poorly he may have been treated by clubs, the way he carries on on the field is attrocious
  • It's not the Bont's fault he gets away with so many throws and missed holding the ball calls, it is, however, his responsibility to not act like an arrogant **** (and I don't feel he does that either tbh)
  • Our small forwards applied so much pressure for little reward until the game turned and even then aside from Walters, they didn't really hit the scoreboard
  • Walters. SONNY ****ING WALTERS. That is all. Guy is a legend and finals specialist (peep his Finals stats; head and shoulders above H&A - Pav was the same)

Let's enjoy this week. We played an exceptionally good 3/4 of football against the odds, turned things around and came away with a win that in all honesty didn't feel like it was in doubt after about the 10 minute mark of the third term imo

I'm no beer snob I'll generally drink anything but what's with the 'fruit' tasting beer like some crap wine?

Notice around these parts lately that there are a good number of people popping their heads up and showing tendencies to beer snobbery.

Do agree that a number of boutique breweries are testing the limits on what you put in your beers.

Who decided Grapefruit in beer was a good thing?

I'm a beer traditionalist - I like German/Italian lagers (Peroni Red - not the blue crap, anything from Munich etc.)

I like a Guinness. I also don't mind some of the sour beers that are knocking about

I despise pretty much everything else. All those craft beers, IPAs, and descriptors such as "wE mIxEd ThIs WiTh sOmE lOvElY hOpPs FrOm A wInE rEgIoN iN fRaNcE aNd SoMe ElDeRbErRiEs FrOm FiJi" can GAGF.

Completely amazing...the stuff of dreams. REALLY good dreams!!! Maybe not a wet dream, but close enough hahaha! Or maybe depending on your level of football 'passion'!! Oh lalalala!

Can't underestimate how good a performance that was really. Any side in a final, irrespective of its age demographic clawing their way back from a 41 point deficit - with aplomb mind! - is just mind-boggling, but to do it with such a young team, with minimal to almost zero finals experience; certainly as a team...is just utterly staggering. What a f***ing freakin' amazing game and experience, I live in envy of all of you present to witness that in the flesh....wow, just 'uckin wow!

I'm still trying to catch my breath. The noise was deafening, even on a computer monitor! It was just utterly insane.

Can't even really summarise with out resorting to absolute word salad dribble the incomprehensible feelings of what happened on Sat night...I couldn't watch it, cos...working from home, but kept checking the scores so nervously! every few mins, and was filled with absolute dread when the score was blowing out and it looked like a mission too impossible. To just fight back that way, in the cauldron of madness that is finals footy....truly remarkable, staggering; majestic...magic. And wonderful.

Absolutely proud as punch for this wonderful football club that's had so many horrible years in the wilderness, largely treated as an after-thought by the AFL and seen a revolving door of talent come & go, to finally feel like a team settling and on the rise, knowing Brayshaw and Serong could easily lead this club for the next 10 years...it feels like it's in good hands for realz and whatever happens now is truly a bonus, but you gotta dare to just dream even if you're mentally scarred from the previous 26 odd years.....just 3 more wins, do it for Dave!!!

Brilliant Fremantle, just utterly flipping brilliant!!! Heave hooooooooooooooooooo!! :freo::grinv1:

watching the replay, a lot of guys in that first half having stinkers. Ryan Chapman Driz Etc etc.

The end of the 2nd was so huge. Cutting it to 15 when we hadn’t kicked a goal with 4.40 left.

Hayden Young’s game was elite the whole way. So composed and makes no bad decisions with the ball. He is an absolute star. Needs to start taking all the kickouts

Also, litter vent while on the kickouts, Luke Ryan is so *ing predictable. Long and to the same side every bloody time. Change it up mate.. came back after almost every single one
in the first half he kicked it at least 3 times in a row to the exxact same spot to a contest where we then didnt mark it, they followed up the ball easily and got a quick re-entry, i was ropeable

weve lost that 'get out of jail' mark that we used to have so often from darcy/tabs/lobb, so we need to change that tactic in particular

Because contrary to popular belief, a huge part of being good defender is....defending! He's the best on the team at defending those dangerous smalls. And he has the added bonus of being able to break lines WHEN NEEDED.

Weightman did not kick a single goal when walker was on him.
Plus, if he errs (one of youngest players in current AFL) he makes a lightning-fast recovery - viz. the rapid toe-poke after he slipped and fell over. And he's got great dance moves.

I was at EFinal and have re-watched several times. I rate his game more highly than the esteemed Duff, who also got it badly wrong for once re Young. Young was for a while THE BOG and overall definitely one of the best.

You realise that ales (including IPAs) have been around since the 18th century right? You're not a traditionalist just because you think your taste is better than others.

Munich have been brewing for longer though…. Hence the traditionalist bit ;) hell, they had laws put in place about ingredients to be used while brewing in 1516

And I never said I think my taste is better - I just like what I like and I’ll be up front about it

I think Walker is the most overrated player in the history of sport.

What does one do with this? wow. I get it that BF is all about overreactions (one bad game from a player = delisting, dropping, garbage). I can appreciate you don't like Walker but, geez, if we really think about this statement, it's a bit silly. He's young player who isn't perfect, but our skipper, Fyfe, isn't perfect either. You can't expect PERFECTION from every single player. Some people say you lose the forest for the trees, but you've lost the forest for the tiny, little moss on a small, little piece of bark on the ground underneath some leaves. Head up. We've won a final. Enjoy it.

Don't get me wrong I love a frothy German pils as much as the next person (Astra Urtyp FTW)

Just grates me reading IPAs and pale ales regarded to as "wanky hipster garbage" (I know you didn't say that, just quoting something I read earlier on the board)

Y'all need to come over to the bourbon side. I'm pouring. My whiskey club welcomes all freo fans.

You've probably discussed this at length mate so apologies, but what's your Freo story? Are you an expat or you just picked up the game randomly at some point?

What are your favourite pours at the moment?

Best reply here as to not derail this thread further

I've tried to get in to them. I just can't get around them. My dad loves them. My uncle loves them. The plus side is when I have them round, they don't pinch my beers. The downside is when I go to see either of them, they tend to have nothing I like ;)

Low-key love how this thread as brought all us freo alcoholics out of the woodwork

I poured myself a triple Balvenie when I got home to help soothe the vocal cords. I still can't really speak truth be told, but it's all worth it when we win the way we did.

Anyone tried better beer? It doesn't taste all that great, but after a few sips it's fine and I feel far less bloated and gross the next day after downing a few

Beer tastes like yeast poo.
Because it is years poo.
Drink your unfiltered poo.
I prefer to distil it first and seperate the poo from the alcohol..

It's possible I may have been slightly hard on him. He defends very well. I'm just baffled by people who talk about how attacking he is. He provides very little with the ball in hand. Our biggest deficiency as a team is moving the ball from D50 to attack.
its not that he doesnt provide much with ball in hand, its just he doesnt get a lot of the ball and thats because we look to get it to the likes of young/chapman/clark instead which is understandable
