Had to evacuate our place in Rochy with 1.5m of water going through the joint, have some friends in the only dry spot in town who’ve kindly let us bunk in. Lost our chooks (pets) and pretty much all of our furniture and most of our belongings.

The volume of water going through the town just has to be seen to be believed. It’s 300mm above the highest level ever recorded, so most people who had built here after the record flood of 2011 did so to that level, all the preparations to raise furniture was done in consideration of that level too.

Lake Eppalock is the controlling influence for us downstream and it’s currently at 135% capacity, that’s 100,000,000,000 litres, or in American terms 100billion litres over capacity which is around 40,000 Olympic size swimming pools.

Losing everything is pretty hard to take especially being uninsured (because of living in a flood prone are) and on top of losing our livelihood during the pandemic.

My partner is devastated.

Wow - my thoughts with you and family. I don’t begin to know what the immediate feeling of devastation must be like, all I can offer is you will get through this and come out the other side. And there is happiness there….

All the best mate.Know what your going through.I live in Seymour. One of the lucky ones i live on high ground and can still get in and out of town. Not so good for the most parts of the town though.River peaked at 8.2mtrs.Rain has stopped but they've opened the gates at Lake Eildon so no respite for the town in the coming days.
