She's the lockdown defender who frees up Brooke Brown to run and carry. Dude, do you even football?

What a load of bullshit. That is ****ing ordinary football regardless of role.

Explain why the lockdown defender went from averaging roughly 10 after 3 games to not getting near it for 5 weeks?

If Wright was that piss poor for 5 weeks she’d be getting hated by everyone.
So don’t start that bullshit!

You’re the dickhead who think Garner shouldn’t be AA captain along with that other dickhead Dan.

So don’t start that bullshit!

You are such a hate-filled little thing, aren't you? Here's the results of the B&F in case you missed the news. Note the finishing position of the player you are actively trying to shitcan off the list.

Saying I didn't think she'd be Captain doesn't necessarily mean I think she wasn't worthy of the accolade.

Spare us the tedious, angst with everything you post.

ps Darwin's a shithole.

No, I just can’t stand ****wits like you.

She is an ordinary footballer who had a 5 week patch of pure garbage and she didn’t get criticised once.

You are all either gutless or hypocrites.

If you’re talking about Ferguson - she isn’t there to get the ball.
Because of the role she plays in the last line of our defense, a sort of sweeper role, the fewer possessions she has, the better the team has played.

One of the things I noticed with Ferguson and Wright this season, and I don't know if it was by design, was they wouldn't take possession of ball if they didn't have too but would tap/flick/knock the ball forward or to a teammate under less pressure.

Didn't always work, but it may explain a decrease in average possession and huge jump in 1%ers for both players.

That is the one game I would think they didn't need to play that way, Sydney applied zero pressure and the ball barely made past the centre line the whole game. All the defenders had low numbers, even Kearney didn't reach double figures for disposals.

I don't think this person watches games. They just follow the stats sheet. At least when the Ziebull hates on North Melbourne players, there's a sense of theatre about it all. This person is just humourless and mean.

I think you've picked up on a tactical shift that applied to the whole team but especially Ferguson and Wright which was to keep the ball in front of you and keep forcing it forward to our advantage and don't risk it spilling over the back.

reminds me a bit of the 90s team under Pagan. The idea that generating team momentum is more important than how you stack up on the stats sheet fits well with a team that play for each other. Teams that play for each other end up being successful.

For a team that got to where they finished this season l dont see much wrong with the side except for missing another Tall Forward and a Tall Back. We do look small against the Lions and Demons but yet still hold our own. This could change if we could get players for the positions mentioned.

I do feel at times we are a little small in the middle as well. As great as players like Bruton and Riddell are, they are both under 160cms and are easily knocked off the ball by bigger bodied mids like Hatchard, McKenzie or even a Bates.

Geez there's some nasty stuff being said in this thread. Glad we all support the same team. Hope mods can deal with the personal abuse some are levelling at others.

We usually just delete such abuse when it’s from our own posters but some of the stuff in this thread’s been beyond the pale. Any continuation of such will result in holidays and/or thread bans FFS.

Record-breaking Lions goalkicker in rivals’ sights

AFLW: Leading goalkicker Jesse Wardlaw could be on move from Brisbane Lions

Jesse Wardlaw exploded onto the scene for the Brisbane Lions this season. The tall forward is in demand, begging the question as to whether the club can hold onto her, writes DANIEL CHERNY.

Brisbane Lions spearhead Jesse Wardlaw, who broke the single-season AFLW goals record last month, is considered gettable by rival clubs this off-season.

Wardlaw, 22, had a breakout campaign in the expedited AFLW season seven, winning the league’s goalkicking prize with 19 majors in the home and away season before breaking Ash Woodland’s record with 22 goals overall for the season.

The 185-centimetre Wardlaw was named All-Australian for the first time but was held goalless in the Lions’ grand final defeat to Melbourne.

That hasn’t stopped opposition clubs from circling however. There is a prevailing sense from list management officials around the league that Wardlaw could be on the move.

She attracted interest from North Melbourne last off-season before recommitting to the Lions, who did an exceptional job at retaining their core talent, which includes league best and fairest winners Ally Anderson and Emily Bates, star defender Natalie Grider and dynamic Irishwoman Orla O’Dwyer.

But with the league having increased to 18 teams, and particularly with several expansion sides missing out on prime targets earlier this year, it is unclear whether the Lions will again be able to keep the wolves at bay.

Wardlaw’s agent Carlie Green Medina confirmed there had been approaches about Wardlaw.

“She’s had a great season cemented herself as a rising powerhouse of the AFLW which would naturally draw the attention of other clubs,” Green Medina said.

Born in New Zealand, Wardlaw excelled in several sports growing up before coming through the Queensland football pathway and becoming a part of the Lions academy.

For now, player movement in AFLW is something of a moot point, with the AFL yet to release list rules or dates for a sign and trade period ahead of season eight, due to begin next August.
Because of the fast-tracked season seven, clubs are expecting that there will be no under-age national draft ahead of next season, with a stopgap over-age player mini-draft to instead be held as a mechanism to bring the calendar back into sync.
Player payments and list sizes hinge on the fruits of the collective bargaining agreement negotiations between the AFL and AFL players’ association, which are ongoing.
