Untidy for mine in the match sim on the weekend. Looks rushed with disposal and mainly a north to south player. Peripheral vision looks to be a bit under par.

Needs to have a pretty decent game against Melbourne to not let a few players go past him in the pecking order.

Could go either way this year for Hugo. Needs to find a weapon other then just speed, needs to put a lot of work into when to attack and when to hold.

He seemed to get better last year the longer the season went. Looked the standout player in the final VFL match. It was such a sight to see Hugo Weaving in and out of traffic.

Plenty to prove, but he definitely has some weapons.

You’re right about being a game of no consequence but Hugo is one of 6 or more younger players around the fringes of the side, trying to break in and establish themselves as permanent top 22. He did nothing to reinforce his claim and will need to show far more soon, else a number of our younger players will be seen as more viable. I hope Hugo can deliver better performances soon or he may just languish in the VFL.

You are not making Hugo Boss JL?

In the end in the great contest to become a regular AFL player I think he will be the Victor, Hugo. :)
Careful where Hugo with this - you could ruin a perfectly good reputation (yours!);)

Yeah agree, a bit like Maxfield
Or Houli when he first went to half back, his composure was his weak point but the longer he played the better he got in that regard. Same being said of Hugo, who has played a 13 games without any continuity. His x-factor far exceeds his deficiencies at this stage and that will level out eventually and go the other way.

Hugo has the run and carry that every team needs, he’s a confidence player that needs a lot of games to build, hopefully he gets some consistent games this year. I feel he’ll peak as a player in a few years and just needs to feel part of the team at this stage.
I’ve said it before, but maybe model his game on Mainwaring. I’m nit a fan of bombing the ball in but it works with dominant one on one forwards (which we have in abundance - all seven of them would kill it in 1v 1 matchups) so a 20 - 30 metre sprint followed by a long bomb would work.

The quick entry is the key and also, isn’t Pickett in some doubt?

I think Mainwaring had glutes. Hugo’s deficiency is in the contest I think and a lot of that would come down to his lack of strength across the hips.

Nothing wrong with his strength, but the contest is not his normal game, he has always had the ball kicked to him as a kid, get it and run. It takes a bit of time to work that contest into your game. He is only 21.

Should be developed to play Brandon Ellis 2017 role .
