Collingwood Q&A with Graham Wright (GW).....interviewed by Mick McGuane (MM) and Glenn McFarlane (GM)
March 10, 2023 - 4:13PM; News Corp Australia Sports

MM: You’ve always had an eye for the future when it comes to talent. Which of the young players will make inroads this year?

GW: Reef (McInnes) or Ed Allan. Ed is 195cm and he has elite endurance and leg speed, he will play wing or mid. He has a lot of upside. Reef has all the attributes but he is improving his endurance.

195cm? as a mid? Jesus in 20 years players Big coxy’s height will be starting mids
Cripps is 195 and Bont is 194. So this isn’t unprecedented.

I think Kouta was the original blueprint for what was to come. Tall athletic. Back in the early 90's.
I look forward to watching Edward

Kouta was an Adonis. Those one handed pick ups of thee ball were extraordinary.

Pity he and Ange weren’t able to play for us…..

Yeah these two were the difference in 1995. Ange also a big guy. Around 190CM.
Both huge Pies supporters. Originally members in our cheer squad. At half-time in Carlton games they would ask if Collingwood is winning.
Such a pity.

And possibly still growing...? Could end up at 197.
I think there is a certain height where you are much more limited purely due to physics and center of gravity and short space movement compared to shorter mids when it comes to being elite at that position. I prob wouldn't want him to grow anymore unless we see him more as a future KPP.

Nick is like Pendles in the sense that he can evade oppo players with subtle body movements & sidesteps.
He's quick enough & seems fit enough to run games out.
Let's not forget that he played every game in his debut season.
As for Ed, he can undoubtedly run fast, but appears to have other tools as well.
I look forward to seeing him play.

Nick is quicker then Josh and is above the average for pace in AFL from what I've seen.
He has enough of a good burst to break clear from chasers.
He isn't elite in pace either but he doesn't need to be.

Don’t think he bas KP traits. Loves working around a stoppage and delivering a ball in the F50. Haven’t seen him take an overhead mark yet, despite having a big vertical leap.

Bit like Ben Simmons being a 6' 10" guard…

Jeez there is an awful lot of crap in this thread... Just want to say that I'm excited to see how Ed goes in the VFL tomorrow. Not expecting him to dominate, just would like to see some promising signs that he might be able to debut later in the year.

Didn't disappoint - thought he was serviceable on the wing, kicked an excellent goal and really liked his hands when he went into the guts - great first game and gave us an indication of his all round skills - his odds of getting an AFL game in the first half of the year are shortening.

Sounds like Eddie Everywhere

West Coast had continued work on him after the draft, parents had been contacted by WC about 6 weeks after he was drafted to see if he would likely come home early.

Family told the Pies due to already in talks for extension.
Eagles the last club he would want to go to, given they were all freo fans prior to the draft. He's very happy here clearly, by his instant signed on the dotted line.

Mate Port told JHF camp they'd get him home at all costs if needed the night he was drafted
Chris davies was on radio weeks before the 18 draft talking about getting any of rankine, rozee or lukosius if drafted by gold coast. These are the teams that sook the loudest about go home factors.

Don't suppose we're in finn callaghan or aaron cadmans ear?

Exactly.

Those boys won't be traded.

One or two of Kelly, Whitfield, Himmelberg, Coniglio and Hayes won't be there next year. There cap is about as stuffed as ours was 2020-21

Edward loves Collingwood and so do his family now.
He's a keeper I can confirm.

Many knew JHF never wanted to leave SA. Well before the draft.
you're talking to the guy who runs this account
