Yeah this is why I'm unsure on it. Sure investing into Ben King basically ensures our forwardline for the next 10 years but I can't see him fitting there along with JVR and Jefferson, so going after King would mean we're not confident both of those guys make it.
As of right now neither have played any AFL so it really isn't guaranteed they do. Better to go for the surer thing (although King also has some questions about how he comes back post-ACL).

Hmmmm, would likely cost us Freo's top 5 pick. Already got JVR and Jefferson, wouldn't reflect very good on them if we were happy to use a other first rounder in a KPF. See how JVR goes this year first I suppose
Yeah Im hoping were just doing our due diligence. Much rather a mid

I'd actually avoid King because it means we plow another 2 top 10 picks into a forward and leave our midfield short again. I can't even imagine how much better we'd look with 2 smooth moving young mids to go with Trac and Oliver

Strong hyperbole champ, I objected to you saying Port are better than us (Which is pretty clearly wrong).

No one out of the club seemed to be overly enthused about taking Jefferson.

He's certainly a while away but I was pretty impressed by his VFL game considering the stage of his development.

More excited about Sextent tbh! But I can't poo poo Jefferson's first game for Casey. He looked ok to me. Should have ended up with a few goals. Doubt he'll debut until next season unless things go pair shaped in regards to injuries or form. He looks like a kid who can get on his bike. Jefferson, JVR and King could work, but doubtful we go overly hard for King considering we need mids and small forwards(particularly if Koz leaves).

Supposedly Dees in the race for Ben King. Obviously every other Vic club will be lining up, and clearly Cats and Pies would be leading the charge, but we at least have the picks to be officially in the race.
It seems some supporters are already trying to persuade him.

Or just massive Adem Yze fans.

King is ready now though, Jefferson is a few years off impacting

I don’t think he’d cost two top 10 picks given the ACL. Probably our higher first round and higher second round

He'd be worth more than Jackson

I think I would have taken a straight swap for Dogga tbh. So about the same seems fair.

I don't think the fact we have Jefferson and JVR on the list should impact. Ben King is much more proven. We have no idea if JVR or Jefferson will be any good. No reason why all 3 can't work in the forward 50 anyway. All play slightly different and have different attributes. JVR could become a standing 1on1 player, King a lead out forward and Jefferson more mobile. All look decent contested marks too.

Not saying we're first in line for King, and I tend to agree mids would be more beneficial, but if he's gettable and we're interested, then could be interesting moving forward.

You better believe that's what GC would be asking for if we have it. Very different to Jackson because they didn't have it.

Rewatched our game against West Coast from 2017. Some thoughts
  • Completely forgot Drew Petrie played for the Eagles. Omac made him look like Wayne Carey
  • Remember loving this game but far out footy sucked a fair bit at the time. There were about 30 ball ups/throw ins in the first quarter alone.
  • Probably the best game of Viney's career. Was huge. We got more value out of him when he's wasn't surrounded by other prolific ball winners. He just scraps and fights, could win three on ones with that level of intensity. This era of footy really suited him with how much congestion and stoppages there were.
  • Neither Oliver or Petracca had a huge impact.
  • Eagles really did dominate this game in the first half and just couldn't put any score on.
  • Games like this are why I remember liking Mitch Hannan when he played for us.
  • Peter Bell might have been a worse boundary rider than he is a list manager.
  • I miss this version of Tmac.
  • Dom Tyson really was a terrible player.
  • Richo waxxing lyrical about how the Eagles had found a player in Malcolm Karpany
  • Pederson did sfa for three and a half quarters then came out of nowhere to turn the game late.
  • Viney incident with Hurn was identical to the Cripps hit on Ah Chee last year.

Reckon Adelaide would do well to try and get Viney across. Their midfield is really lacking for some decent ball winners and he'd be a great bit of senior experience to have in their side. Would compliment them really well.

Gawns the best.
"Should have pissed myself laughing when I heard ACL"

Even gets in on the 4-6 joke

Enjoyed the Fritsch gag

Gawny will slot right in to a media career post footy. One of the few... very few.. AFL players that is genuinely funny.
Yeah he's the type of bloke even if he played for Richmond I'd still love him. Very comfortable switching it off and taking the piss

is that the game that we won in the dying seconds because of a TMac goal?

Yeah that's the one. Eagles got like 16 points up with 7 or 8 minutes to go and we came back.

Went to this game, the Farmer show, Goal #1 and #7....so good.

**** he was box office. It’s kind of ironic that we may be living through the best times as a Melbourne supporter in two generations but almost all of our exciting forwards were stacked in an era where we inconsistent or utterly shit.

HF: Robertson - 94 Schwarz - 94-95 Garry Lyon
F: Farmer - Jakovich - Jurrah

Plus Aaron Davey who didn't have the tricks in the forward line of those guys but invented the defensive pressure in the modern game. It was it's on type of excitement seeing him run past 5 blokes to lay a tackle.

Pickett's gonna kick someone out of the forward 6 by the end of his career if he stays.
