I hadn’t thought of it like that but you’re probably right. The dynamics of a nationally selected team would be quite different.
The amount of bonafide leaders in the playing group for a national team would be ridiculous, you basically have nothing to worry about as a coach.

The coaches came up with some great ideas to build a strong culture in the All Blacks, thats why they didnt have any dysfunction, is sort of like saying that there is a rock that keeps tigers/dysfunction away. No, the players are the best of the best for a reason, they have high standards and live and breath rugby every day.

Melbourne Football Club: "All Blacks, id like to buy your culture crash course"

I’m sure they face some ego and personnel challenges from time to time, but the professional standards of anyone selected at that level would have been well tested prior or they wouldn’t be there.

Your regular clubs have to build these things for themselves. Someone like Craig Bellamy to lead a review would be unreal. Like having Norm Smith stop by without all of the sharp edges. I suppose Bellamy currently has better things to do with his time than be floating consultant to disfunctional demons though

Even says it himself in the article ffs :tearsofjoy:

“It was a very honest place, the leadership was shared, it wasn’t a coach-driven environment.
“I look back at that era over about 10 years when we were number one in the world with McCaw and Carter, they were such important participants in the culture as well as the on-field (performance).
“The way they were inside the environment, how they turned up, how they behaved, who they were every day.
“Every single day Richie McCaw was the first player on the (training) field. I can’t recall a day where he wasn’t. Now that’s culture, that’s a leader setting the standard that he expects from everyone else."

... AFL is a salary cap league and always will be pretty much a coach driven environment

A guy who runs a national team in a different sport overseeing a club level team in the AFL is weird. You've got the best of the best playing for the all blacks, there are no ego's, favouritism, dysfunction, if you are a dysfunctional player you dont get picked.

If you were going to do something like this ive go no idea why you wouldnt ask Craig Bellamy or someone from the Storm instead.
I had the same thoughts, the all blacks are the national pride. Their success comes from new zealand living and breathing rugby. Just about every kid dreams of playing for them. There's just no room for unprofessionalism. No favouritism either because there's always a player working their arse off for your spot. The fans (the entire population of new Zealand) wouldn't tolerate mediocrity. Too many Melbourne supporters are nuffies that put players before success.

Sorry I meant to say Clayton Oliver is absolutely amazing 24-7 and has been thoroughly professional the last 2 year. If the all blacks were more like him they'd be a successful operation

There's is no possible universe Oliver's weight could fluctuate and he's looked exactly the same every day of every year

Call me back and say the opposite of what you just said. Clayton Oliver is a brilliant player, with well thought out decisions, he is going to secure club success for year to come and his fitness is beyond reproach.

Um, Simon Goodwin is a... brilliant man with lots of well thought-out, practical, ideas. He is insuring the success of this club for years to come. Oh yes, and his personal hygiene is above reproach.
You stole my Bit!

I came across this youtuber who is playing real life monopoly usa edition, basically he travels to whatever destination he lands on the board day by day. Anyway he travelled to Seattle and took in a seahawks game. He talks to a fan to get an understanding of the game. The fan tells him he's season ticket holder who roots for the visiting team because he hates everything about the Seattle seahawks. He's basically the Topkent of seahawk fans. About 17 minute into the video 📹

“The overwhelming support for the Board endorsed candidates – Steven, Sally, Angela and Chris – is a clear sign of our members’ confidence in the direction of the club"

Though, it really is awkward that they have referred to the T.R.U.E stuff as being a shared and ongoing value literally four weeks after admitting that the catchphrase was dreamt up by Glenn Bartlett who they got rid of.

(Headless just for you, I would like you to think of my last four words as being “of whom they got rid”)

Oh, it's such a silly 'rule', PG! :laughv1:

I did that postscript to a post just for you, Less. Now I would never tell you what to do, but don’t you think a thank you Gander is in order?
I absolutely do!

Headless I didn't realise you were a whom guy. My old man use to yell at the footy 'who to' when there was a turnover, then would say 'really should be to whom'. Was always great going to the footy and watching the dees get schooled on the field while I'm getting schooled in the stands. Another one of his sayings is 'fraught with danger'. That one doesn't get used as much with Goodwin's safe style.
