I know many thought Richmond would be fighting for the premiership because they got signed two solid midfielders on 7 years contracts.

I think they are going to regret that within 2 years

Collingwood exposed Richmond for what they are now. The 2017–22 Hawthorn Football Club. A team that has brought in two quality midfielders but won't make any profound impact due to the demographics of the surrounding players. They either have kids who haven't developed into the players they thought they would be or stars of the past who are like a gearbox that only has 1,000 kilometres left.

They are just a completely different side without prime dusty Riewolt (god he milks everything now he should have hung up the boots) and rance, add them back in and everyone plays better around them.

Had 30 touches, 5 clearances and 5 tackles tonight.

No hospital handballs or stat padding, just hard at it in the packs.

Played three very good games in a row, he’s absolutely loving it at the Pies.

Recruit of the year so far. Daicos would be stealing his Brownlow votes though.

This is the least hateable Collingwood in my life (save for that grub De Goey). Eddie gone; McRae a very likeable coach and the side playing a really exciting brand of footy.

Mitchell and pick 25 for Henry and some late picks is really good business. I have a few Pies supporting mates who just can’t believe their luck.

Begs the question is did we try to get Mitchell to do a similar role at the Hawks and he refused or did we never think to use Mitchell as a pure distributor (seems unlikely given how good he is at this role).

Gotta say though that he just fits the Collingwood midfield so well, it’s about a perfect fit for Tom to utilise his attributes as you could think.

How do you tell your players not to give it to the best player in the side?

The youngsters in the clip gave him the ball despite them have an open path to run and carry the ball themselves, they probably felt they should.

Anyone else see the pregame footage of Tom playing at Hawthorn and then playing for Collingwood that Lewis put up.
The examples of Tom calling for the ball and getting it in bad spots from players in better positions. Two clear examples where he got the ball and then had nowhere to go, whereas with Collingwood his role is to get and give to better players.

It was a good footage.

I noticed last night that Tom looked downfield before kicking it. If only he did that the last few years with us.

Reiwoldt and Cotchin are both cooked and were. Should have moved them last year and played the young ruck/forward in Reiwoldts place and they have enough mids to cover Cotchin .

He never adjusted to Sams style and was stuck in Clarko's system of ball retention over pace/risk.
And as pointed out our guys would just give him the ball.

Its no suprise he is playing well in that side , damn good player with a dynamic midfield running shotgun.

Was a good move for both but feel every Collingwood game his name will pop up hete as it has the last 3 weeks

Tom is super competitive and I imagine that he tried to do it all while at the hawks but the reality is he only made it worse.

Those highlights Tazz showed were a constant and it was so frustrating to watch. The number of times he played himself and others in to trouble or did one of those up in the air nothing kicks, left me screaming. The move has been good for him and I hope he gets a premiership

For our boys it’s a big loss of experience and it’s tough going right now and they could probably do with a couple of wise heads like a Hodge right now, but with time, it will come and they and we just have to be patient

One of the commentators on the telly said last night that the Pies are currently “passengerless”

I thought it was a good summary of how they are at the moment, players in the Collingwood VFL team will have to be playing some excellent footy to force their way into that team.

Very different position to us at the moment where we are actively dropping players to the VFL due to poor form.

I really think it’s as simple as; Tom thrives when he’s got a great supporting cast around him, in a way that he couldn’t when he doesn’t and expected to be the main guy.

The thing is that I barely saw him get it out in space or kick and when he did, it was a short pass. Just using him as a distributor in tight to MUCH better users.

Last year he'd often be getting it out in space and going for kicks he wasn't capable of making because he didn't have quality around him.

Nup - forwards.

Doesn’t mean he doesn’t know heaps about Tom though. Particularly given we started rolling mids through the forward line more in 2021 anyhow.

McRae would have had a very good handle on Tom before he arrived at the Pies.

There are a lot of very good players at Collingwood who arent called Nick Daicos.
They are playing for each other...nothing better than watching great team football.
