ONE FLAG in 150 years 😂😂😂

27 wooden spoons

When the Saints were building their house they decided to start with the kitchen. Unfortunately, like many lazy blokes down Moorabbin way, they haven't finished the job.

I hope Setters kills it, as he was never ahead of Cripps, Kennedy, even Hewett, for that inside role, or Walsh and Cerra

So whether he plays well, plays well against us, or even if * beat us, it has nothing to do with the pecking order

Still think he's a bit of a deckchair in a good side.

So good luck to him. If he makes * think they've covered their inadequacy on the inside and they look to build elsewhere good for us

Also good luck to him. I don't think anyone would think that he would be getting a regular game unless we were ravaged by injuries.

That gives a fairly good representation of how good our midfield is if he is playing well elsewhere.

The thing to remember, however, is that he had really good patches of form here or there when he was with us. It's not a great surprise that he's come bursting out of the gate.

He's never been able to sustain it. I hope he does for his sake but I'll be a little surprised. I wonder what happens when they come up against stronger sides and not everything is going *'s way.

Setters is playing a lone hand inside mid role, surrounded by what has always been a fairly handy outside-leaning midfield group. It's the perfect environment for him, and more power to him. At some point soon though, clubs are going to identify that he's a key component in there and will start putting work into him...remains to be seen how he handles being targeted.

Excuse me whilst I spew up at all the Setterfield love. Was a flake with us and now plays for the most toxic pile of putrescence that ever masquraded as a sporting entity. And our arch-enemy. Give him and them nothing.

We are wired very differently. No love, let alone respect for that Sh1t stain club, but plenty of time for Setterfield. If we had gone a different way with recruitment and game plan, he would be a staple in our 22. No flair or fuss, but gets from contest to contest and has a great defensive presence. A tackling machine. I wish Setters all the best personally, but strongly hope the club he has joined remains largely irrelevant. They have long had an undersized, somewhat soft midfield, it is the perfect fit for Will.

I am appalled at the lack of compensation we received for him, but that was on us.

The rub is our other “loss” Stocker is going to be a staple for that other mob. In a professional environment it is hard the excuse Stocker’s petulance, but, like Setterfield, he was a victim of our list build. Stocker’s best role is as a rebounding, even playmaking half back and I expect he will excel at it. Reality is that we tried to make him in to a lockdown type to accommodate the flair and dash of Saad, Williams, Docherty et al. Chicken or egg question regarding his efforts and motivation. Was his attitude a product of disillusionment with the role handed him, or was the role brought about due to laziness and indifference?

Setterfield was never going to play his best role for Carlton, because his best role is currently filled by one Patrick Cripps. Like Dow, he is also sufficiently inflexible positionally that outside of his first position he's not really AFL standard.

His performing well at Essendon in Cripps' role should come as no surprise. If you plonked Cripps into their midfield, he'd look pretty good too. But he was never going to take the gig from Cripps, and that's okay; the only real issue is that it took us a year to three too long to work it out.

Best of luck to him, worst of luck to them, and I begrudge him every possession he gets against us.

Will Setterfield was such a nothing player for our club that 8 Victorian clubs, who all finished above *, didn’t go anywhere near him in the trade period. Not even a club on the fringes of finals were looking at him. He could play all 23 games for * in 2023. He might have played a handful of games at Carlton in 2023 and only during an injury crisis. That’s a bigger indictment on *’s midfield, than on our club. Time to move on, like we did with SPS and Levy. Nothing players that were once at Carlton.

Just saw this and laughed - was a tidbit at the end of an article re: the Aints v * game this week...just to show how amazingly relevant the Aints are..
"St Kilda's biggest home and away crowd was played against Collingwood at Waverley Park in 1978, where 72,669 fans attended." :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

1/4 time on the swans board:

Yet another Vic team get a huge amount of frees. What's effing new. Dissent really? Will shook his head. It was a effing throw. Like nearly every so called handball they have made today.
Frees not given. Frees to the opposition for dissent. It is one way to get rid if interstate teams. I bet only the Victorian teams were told of this interpretation. I will also charge that it has only been used against Interstate clubs. It was not used in the games with only Victorian teams playing each other.
We are not playing well but we are getting crucified. That saps your confidence

sooooo......the afl pours in tens of millions to the swans across 3 or 4 decades but now want to "get rid" of them...........?

That’s some good thinking actually. Can we **** off shit clubs like GWS and Fremantle? I’d start with * and St Kilda but we are doomed to keep them forever. :(

I love when people try the Vic bias claim.
The game has been run for 10 years by a South Australian and would gain massively (growth of the game and dollars) by favouring the interstate sides.
Blues, North, Dees all with extended periods down the bottom of the ladder. Hawks looking at some bottom finishes.
Lions, Swans, Port, Crows, Freo, Eagles, Giants all had extended runs at the top of the ladder.
Ironically, the team that just unexpectedly beat the reigning prems (GC) the only interstate team that hasn't had a decent run of top 8 finishes in the past decade (or ever) and the Cats the only Vic team who hasn't had a run down the bottom.

And that was by 1 solitary point, by a lucky last minute wobbly kick out of a pack by Barry Breen, that rolled through. As John Elliott would say, " They really have a tragic history".
