He's not wrong, the average temp might be close but the winds in off the Derwent are freezing cold. Tassie feels a lot colder than Melbourne for sure.

I definitely think they can support both. I's a sports mad town. The NRL don't own the stadium so would have to come to the party in any negotiations.

Cairns has a much stronger case for AFL IMO, they have a lot of relocated southeners with a reasonable local AFL community already established, plus Cazaly Stadium up there has a brilliant playing surface outside of wet season. Slightly smaller population than Townsville but less of it is based on the Army. And support for the Cairns Taipans is fantastic.

Isn't the issue that you cant play there for most of the normal AFL season because the humidity is too sapping.

I think things get really interesting for Hawthorn at least for the next few weeks. They've got something like the whole compliment available.

It's not that I think they're a chance of doing much this year. I'm fascinated by the approach because I see the potential in the list.

They get a look at Ramsden and Weddel this week. That's a shit load of raw talent.

It doesn't read well on paper because there are no high picks but the forward mix this weeks looks good. Lewis, Greene, Brockman and Ramsden (who's a very mobile, 202cm CHF who has been kicking goals in the VFL) is pretty solid set of attributes for future mix.

Unlike NRL country they’ll be local heroes on the local news so it’s not going to have the anonymity/irrelevance factor of a start up on the Gold Coast

You could really, a flight to Hobart is probably quicker than driving to training at Casey Fields or Kardinia Park (assuming you start from the airport).
