The more they make a big deal out of it the worse it’ll probably get :/ it’ll be like the Goodes thing and follow him through his career at this rate

It's going to be interesting to see how it plays out.
Do they go full on and reference it and plead for it to stop.
Do they ignore it and rely on the tiny attention span of the masses to move past it.

I think the smart thing to do would be to get it out of people's minds. By bringing it up, morons will seize on it trying to throw him off.
Ignore it, don't even welcome it or dare them to do it and you would think it dies down after the critical mass shrinks.

Its the telling people what to do that will make it drag on, it becomes not even about JHF (if it even still is) it's to do what they have been told not to because they can.

Treat them like streakers. Quietly removed and not mentioned on the broadcast

THE JHF stuff shows how ******* stupid people really can be. What a bunch of dumb ass sheep.
Couldn't agree more. Absolute bellends.

Best thing Port can do though imo is just ignore it. Ken had his crack two weeks ago, now just act like it isn't there, maybe even make a joke of it internally.

I know ther will be a desire to come out and back him publically, but If they come out firing I suspect it will feed the cycle to keep it going ala Goodes. No one wants that

He's good enough to embrace it.

My advice: turn full heel and start referring to himself in the third person during interview for a start.

Anybody who just writes the people booing off as 'idiots' aren't really looking at the key issue.

What JHF did went against a key value for many Australians: loyalty.

In saying that, it should stop, he's a kid. But ignoring it definitely the right way to go. Footy supporters (or people in large groups) in general don't like being told to change.

lol

I can understand the backlash, because having first round picks leaving after a year is not the type of thing people want normalized. The second you make it seem like it's fine and dandy then you open up the pattern to continue. So I see it as people just wanting to nip it in the butt early and make the frustration known as an example to others that want to do it too. You'd effectively end up with a free angency system among the clubs that have no time for it.

However, I don't see it going on for too long. Just enough to irritate him and be presented as an undesired deterrent, but not too long. This is because North were compensated (albeit effectively placed a year behind in a rebuild) and unlike the Goodes scenario, which is interanlized racism that stays dormant, it's less of an ingrained issue that'll stick around as we move on.

**** I can't wait for us to start booing Jye Caldwell for his terrible loyalty and screwing over GWS. his tactics fill me with disgust and brings tears to my eyes. it's not what we stand for

Very different. First year. A lot of Australians feel players need to 'do their time' with whatever club picks them up, including myself.

Loyal to what tho? Got drafted to somewhere he didn't want to be & did what most of us would do given the chance in his position - go & live & work where you want.

Yeah if you're clueless about the position you applied for. When you want to be in the big time you have to expect to put in work at places not to your complete prefetence. If you don't like it, no one's forcing you to be a footy player, go build train sets or something.

Look at the goat**** (at the time) he got drafted to & where he is now. No brainer imho.

I mean, this is just insane. One of the problems with the draft and the AFL player movement system, particularly when we were in the mid 2000s doldrums when moving clubs was so difficult, is this idea of basically forced loyalty that players are supposed to have to the club that drafted them. JHF was the best (available) player in the draft. The Roos didn't pluck him out of an abandoned diamond mine. They just picked the best thing available to them. Why should JHF be loyal to them? The Roos did nothing other than pick him when every other club would have picked him too. And why on earth are 3rd parties engaging on this? JHF will get booed by the Roos fans and everyone will understand that. St Kilda fans? get the **** out. boo your coach for [redacted].

It's lovely that the Victorians suddenly care about players leaving clubs, a decade after the Lions, Suns and Giants all really started getting ****ed by this, but give me a break with this loyalty stuff
