But I agree with the sentiment, Sloane can’t go on if we’re serious about moving forward

He's not worse than Thommo but I basically agree with your assessment on Sloane. Our forward line is scary weak without Walker unfortunately. He'll feast on eagles and Roos and that's enough to lock him in his spot for the remainder of our season, it's just how we roll. You can change the coaches as often as you like, the higher ups will just employ the exact same types that align with the existing philosophies. Without Sloane's experience out there we lose by even more, the fact he is routinely beaten in the contest and opponents run off him forward with ease is irrelevant. His name is Rory Sloane and that's all that matters.
Re Tex, he shouldn't go on either. Yes, he's still kicking goals, but he gets a LOT of ball directed at him and he loses most of them to unpressured disposal to opposition. But he's done enough the last 2 and a bit seasons to at least warrant selection, with rests. Not Sloane, he was an average mid pre ACL and he's now worse than what Thommo was delivering in 2016. Will be a disaster if he gets an extension bevause he'll never play 2s.

Absolute nonsense regarding Walker. Is still probably the most important player at the club. Massive difference between the quality of team performances when he in the team and when he is not. Works well alongside Fogarty as well, with both having good years. The dropoff in output to playing someone like Gollant in Walker's spot would be massive.
Sloane was justifying his place in the team earlier in the year, but now he is not. Would be keen to see him tried as the sub.

We do like to dick him aroundI hate seeing Sloane permanently in the middle, while Jones after really improving his performances being shunted from the wing to more as a HB. With his improved form this year he needs to stay permanently in the midfield rotating through the wing and centre square.
Play Sloane as a HB if they need to make adjustments through the game.
Pretty sure Thommo only played 1 game in his last season. He is not as bad as Thommo yet. Thommo was very selfish in his last year. He needed the money so wanted to get through as many games possible.
Tex's last two and half quarters last night was pathetic. Sounds harsh but it was.

I remember watching his last game and thinking that he reminded me of a bollard. And my other memory is his 'free against' stat was almost as high as high as his total disposals.
The main take away from that for me was he told by Don he wouldn't guaranteed a spot in the 1's. And his re-signing was the catalyst for Lyons going to GCS.
And the post I quoted referred to his last year. Most casual observers thought Thommo was close to cooked in 2016, yet he was still under contract. No idea what his match payments would've been then.if you read the quoted post, you'll notice that the year referenced was 2016, not his final year.
It was like he'd been hiking through the mud and was trying to run with an inch or 2 of clay stuck the bottom of his bootsIt just looked to me last night he was carrying that knee, May have been mistaken
I think we'll really start to see TT relish in the 50 more when Tex retires and spends less time playing up the ground. He's not worse than Thommo but I basically agree with your assessment on Sloane. Our forward line is scary weak without Walker unfortunately.
Nothing emotional about it, and it's not about the Dogs game. In the last 3 years the club is 19 and 27 in games with Walker (41%) and 2-8 without him (20%). He's been the leading goalkicker every year, and is again, and top 10 in the AFL. Walker's possession count is down a bit (11.2 compared to 13-14 the last two years), but he's kicking just as many goals. Champion Data rates him 'above average' for his position for this year compared to elite last year. Comparing his stats to Gollant is obviously ridiculous given that Walker would be leading in every single category and Gollant has only played 3 games, but the simple reality is that Walker is a high quality proven AFL forward who is still playing very well and Gollant is not there yet. He's getting older and one day won't be worth his spot, but he definitely still is and it isn't even close.that's just pure emotional rubbish. You have a single game to draw a conclusion about his value to team performance when out of the side. Tex has had 4 sub 10 disposal games in the last 5, Gollant averages 8, the drop off would be minimal, even despite the huge variation in ball directed at him. Happy for Tex to play out this year, needs a rest though, obviously not home crowd for his 250th. But 2023 should see him done, but I know our club won't not extend either of them.

I guess the point I was trying to make was the folly in giving Thommo a 1 year extension. To basically spend the season playing SANFL and taking a list spot that could've been utilised for Jarrod Lyons.
The club is going to need to make the same decision on Sloane at the end of the year.
Right now I'm not that confident they're capable of making the right 1.
Given we are refusing to manage him, we are cooking him by playing him every week. He's cooked sadly. Better not get another year.
Mmmm .. sad if true. The club should absolutely wait until the end of the season before making a decision for both them.P
i reckon they made the call a few weeks back, same with Tex. And they could go kickless the next 2 months and still get extended.
