MRP / Trib. James Sicily - 3 weeks for dangerous tackle - SUSPENSION STANDS!

It’s a joke

Has to be now that they work on implementing some sort of hold that doesn’t entail taking a player to ground, don’t run down a player and lastly watch them sprint past because It’s just too risky trying to lay a tackle - that’s where we are now at.

...which also raises the question...since we're judging the outcome...what about Dangerfield's punctured lung??
Yep. That’s one of the crazy aspects in all this. If Sis had landed on McCluggage’s leg, ruptured his acl and put him out for 12 months rather than two weeks, he would not have been cited!

The AFL will say it’s trying to protect the head but they aren’t because nobody knows what Sis could have done differently, and so how can they think this sanction will prevent the next accidental tackling injury.

Seriously we are better off not thinking about it! It’s not going to do any of us any good!!

These sanctions on head high contact are clearly the AFL's response to the legal action taken against them by past players who've suffered concussions.
No doubt. But is it right ??
The system was stacked against Sicily.
The AFL always wins. Appeals do not succeed.

Still mystified how this got 3 weeks
Still mystified of what purpose the appeal process serves in its current format
Still mystified what Sicily’s alternative was other than a hypothetical unrealistic explanation given to excuse the blatantly wrong decision

until as such time as the AFL hierarchy provides a reasoned response, every single Hawthorn player should remain silent in protest of its captain

do not speak to a single external entity. **** the lot of them.
turn up to a media appointment and stay silent

I really wish we would take a stand - like not performing a single tackle in our next 3 matches. I don't care if we lose because of it, but it would be a big f* you to those idiots at AFL house who are ruining the game.

Make a stand by not turning up. Literally, forfeit a match.
It's a pity we don't have c7 games. Them losing their revenue would make the afl change their tune

At the point where I drop my membership to a GA one and stop attending. Stop watching it on TV, and give a passing interest in the scores
I’m hearing you MM, I live interstate so it is a fair commitment for me to get to a game in Melbourne.
I have still continued with all the family memberships to support the club, even though I don’t really get to use them.
I’m at the point now where is just can’t be ****ed with the game, it gets harder to watch every year, and this decision won’t improve things.

I'm torn, because I love hawthorn, but I hate the game.
The frustration is in the stands now too.
So many fights between fans, and it's frustration at the state of the game.

The fans turn up time and again, so the league won't listen.

Would be just cutting off our nose to spite our face.

The AFL would probably charge us with bringing the game into disrepute, as well, the A-holes...

It’s pretty clear now.

If a player is concussed as a result of an opposition player tackling or bumping them then it will be graded severe impact and high contact.

Broad got 4 weeks in Rd 2 for tackling Parnell and causing him concussion.

Nothing has changed since then.

Action is less relevant than outcome.

Broad lifted the player, sent him face first into the turf after play was dead.it was one that should always be suspended
A bit different to a player getting suspended for his opponent falling backwards

Any player with issues and wanting to sue will just wheel out all the examples of players not being suspended for doing the same or similar action. It is literally the action and not the outcomes that lead to cte. So waiving of Merrett driving a player into the ground won’t hold up against medical evidence that suggests it’s the blows on the concussion that causes cte.

Farcical decision. That's what I would have posted if it was one of our players.

Exactly.

Action is now less relevant than outcome.
