Ahhh but it is what it is….what can you do. Sad but it’s the reality of life like a lot of things in this world
Once you allow the product to be a medium for gambling, the product no longer becomes the primary focus - the gambling does.

The Racing Industry are now squealing like pigs because turnover is dropping, attendances no longer exist, the racing product is not being bought by the younger generation. It's just seen as another avenue for betting along with other sports, pokies, casino, etc.

Why? Because the so-called custodians of the sport allowed the corporate suits to saturate the product in pursuit of the quick dollar, to the point where the next generation of racing followers were lost as the "sport" of racing was no longer the primary reason for an interest in the game.

The AFL are heading in the same direction. They may get a quick fix from the gambling dollar, but your mates son at 16 is not following a club with passion, he's barracking for player X to get 25+ disposals, or player Y to kick a goal before half time. Fk'n sad!! But he's not alone. One of the reasons I have stopped going to games is I'm sick of some little campaigner sitting behind me cheering for Dusty to get another disposal when we're 10 goals down FFS.

Once we rusted on passionate fanatics are no longer around, we'll see how many from the younger generations coming through will brave the elements week in week out to support their team. Or maybe they'll resemble the racing industry and only front up at carnival time to get sh!tfaced and go into hibernation for the rest of the year.

Don't hold your breath about changes occurring soon. Governments are addicted to the gambling revenue (as well as being universally useless), and Gil and his cohorts CGAF.

Already the NRL is out drawing the tv Audiences, they have just as big an issue with gambling but it’s not sanctioned by the NRL like the AFL does
