Another one of our foundation year players, Andrew Phillips retiring. He took on a big role early on as our big man protecting our kids, and ground out a decent career for himself across a few clubs. All the best to the big fella.

FREMANTLE has delisted speedsters Travis Colyer and Nathan Wilson as it looks towards next season. Wilson, a running defender who started his career at Greater Western Sydney, played just four senior games this year after managing just two last season.

He was one of my favourite players to watch when he was at his best with us. With his speed off that half back, was one of the key pieces in the original orange tsunami.

It was a shame for him that he never really recaptured that form when he moved back west.

If used correctly, the off-season break is the single biggest advantage players have. Jake Stringer, Aaron Naughton and Jacob Hopper are among the players who should use it wisely.

Former Giant Hopper owes a lot to his new club after a bitterly disappointing first season at the Tigers, who gave up draft picks six (2023) and 31 (2022) to recruit him from the Giants. A career-low 38 per cent of Hopper’s possessions were contested, his ball use by foot was poor and he finished outside the top 250 players as rated by Champion Data. Hopper needs to get aerobically fitter in the off-season and work strictly on his speed. He turns 27 in February, and with six years remaining on his lucrative contract, alarm bells would be ringing at Richmond.
