Analysis 2025 GWS Giants - Predicted best 22, breakout player(s), general player/team discussion & questions

Just one of the "fluff" articles written at this time of year. Still, it's all we've got!

Working alongside the team's star-studded backline and against their lively forwards, Stone has gotten a close look at the Giants' pre-season standouts. 12 months ago it was Academy graduate Harvey Thomas who impressed before enjoying a 22-game rookie season, while speedster Darcy Jones also broke through for an AFL debut prior to cementing his place in Kingsley's plans.

This year, hard-nosed half-back Harrison Oliver has emerged as someone who "looks like he's going to be a good player" for GWS, with fellow first-year flanker Cody Angove also catching Stone's eye.

"The one last year that really stood out and it translated to on-field performance was Harvey Thomas. There's a no-fuss attitude about the way he goes about his footy. So that was really impressive. Darcy's obviously got some unbelievable traits," he said. "Then all the draftees are getting eased into it a little bit but they've all showed signs. Harry Oliver, he's another half-back, he looks like he's going to be a good player for us. Cody Angove has had a couple of little highlights as well so far. The boys have certainly shown their attributes and showed that they will fit into the Giants system, so it's a real credit to them so far."
Let's hope Stone himself can take the opportunity. Has the talent and seems like he's finally through the body issues.

That's a decent draw for us, by what afl.com.au is measuring. Not too hard of a start - as long as we come out of the gates well, then getting harder in the middle - hopefully we've become a bit battle-hardened by then - before lightening off the difficulty in the run to the finals. Maybe we'd prefer a harder run into finals ... but these are just based on last year's positions so may turn out to be false anyway.

How’s The Package going?
as you'd expect this time of year, all the reports are all very positive.

We'll know more as the year goes on

Might be just me but I think our social media coverage this off season has been poor so far. I notice other clubs post these regular YouTube pieces. We are lucky to get a couple of photos every second day. Not very innovative… we need to be the most innovative.
I'd imagine they are just back in the office. Good thing is that they are very welcoming if you ever trundle down to training

Finally a bit of content from the Giants regarding preseason

From the video:
  • Joe Fonti’s looking really sharp, dashing off the half back flank
  • Aaron Cadman looks like he’s taken another leap this year
  • Cody Angove looking like a really dangerous damaging player
  • Jake Stringer’s come back looking really fit and he’s looking really strong

Good watch. I'm excited to see Angove in the 2s now

I really like you guys, my 2nd team. But seeìng " The Package " on the sports news last night in orange training gear really has me questioning my sanity.
Haha yeah it looks kinda weird hey. Imagine what it's gonna feel like when the we player the bombers.
I still hate seeing Jeremy Cameron in hoops....feel wrong still

I used to watch a fair few Geelong games as a neutral observer.

Can't do that any more.

Feel like 2025 could be the year of the Giants..best 23 looks very solid;-

Idun Taylor Buckley
Whitfield Himmelberg Ash
Ward Green Callaghan
Jones Cadman Daniels
Stringer Hogan Greene

Briggs Kelly Coniglio

Bench: O’Halloran Bedford Riccardi Aleer Leake

That full forward line is extremely dangerous:

Stringer Hogan Greene…!!

I think you're a little tall in that back line. Need another small back there instead of Aleer sadly. Stone/Leake/Wehr/Fonti

Beast of a forward line. Wouldn't want to be the backline coaches coming up against us. Our issue last year was centre clearance. Hopefully we've put a fair bit of work in there.

The half forward line of Jones, Cadman and Daniels is pretty lethal as well.

Absolutely. Potentially a Callum Brown, Phoenix Gothard, Harvey Thomas or Ollie Hannaford to be added too, instead of Riccardi.

I would just opine that this bench is too tall. IMHO Stringer plays the third tall role rather than a medium; and we've already got 4 talls in the backline with HH & Idun. So I think Aleer is replaced by Conor Stone or someone else such as Jacob Wehr or Joe Fonti (or potentially James Leake).
