Is it just me or did Melbourne get a better deal for Grundy than we did for Adams? One guy couldn't get a game the other clearly in the best 22 and a member of the leadership group
Sydney for the best deal of all, Grundy will play first ruck and have a brilliant year next year.

Has Schultz gone through the midfield much with Freo or does he only play forward?
No not really and Fremantle supporters will have a better view of his scope to do it, but I think Fremantle’s midfield mix could be a reason why. If he were to rotate through with Serong and Brayshaw it’s a small group. Workrate and engine look to be ticks and he can find it so I wouldn’t rule it out post Pendles/ Steele.

Just a small clarification, I’m pretty sure he said he had been the hardest trainer in that block when he was in VFL. I don’t think he meant at the Club as a general rule over the season(s).
Working hard to get a spot back and good on him.

Yeah Quaynor has said that he thought Ginnivan had been coasting, and that he has really lifted his game since being dropped, so credit to him but I don’t think we can say that he’s always been a great trainer.

I have read on this board in the past few days that Taylor Adams' three-year deal at Swans is worth 2.4 mill? Is this correct? If so, there's the clear and only necessary reason for him moving there. My understanding is he had 1 more year to run with us back-ended at about 800? He would have probably got 500-odd a season for another couple of years with us?

That was some Chinese whispers, it wouldn’t be that much. But certainly three years and decent coin, so your theory still holds.

Unless Ginnivan is going to get us a first round pick, trading him for a second round pick will be useless to us. No one currently values a second round pick in compromised drafts.

We're in a flag window and Ginnivan is ready to step up when needed. A second round pick will just be idling in the VFL not ready for another 2 years. That or they'll get delisted after their draft contract from lack of opportunity.

Big picture, I agree with you, but Fly hasn’t been at the club very long and he may feel he wants more of his preferred archetype at the club. Certainly they seemed to like Ryan a whole lot, and he was a second rounder in a less-than-stellar draft.

Ginnivan was saying he wants to play midfield next year

well he needs an off season where he puts on 5kg of muscle , get his body in shape to warrant a run through the middle. By the time preseason comes around we will all know how committed he is to be the best he can be
he has the talent, but it is up to him

And all that is just so he can start competing with the likes of Macrae, Allan, Reef and Harrison for midfield minutes.

There is probably less competition for small forward spots.

Adding a 2nd position will help opportunities, or add least add it to his game, as he grows as a footballer.

Those so eager to push Ginni out seem to forget Billy is 31 .

Bobby can play wing (Sidebottom).

Adams has left.

That potentially leaves 3 forward spots available in the near future.

And then there are always the inevitable injuries.

Bobby is a Norm Smith winning freak and so the question isn’t “where can he play?” but “where does he play best?” or “where does Bobby’s output best contribute to our chances of winning games?”.

One of Fly’s best attributes as a coach is that he puts his players in position to succeed, he doesn’t ask players to do what they aren’t capable of (short of Bilbo Frampton as a once-off in the GF). So it’s not a case of reshuffling the deck to fit Ginnivan in, it’s a case of Ginnivan beating someone out.

Still don't understand the angst of some wanting to move Ginni on. We play a hybrid style that accommodates a lot of smaller agile types in our forward line - and only run with 1-2 key pillars. In 2024 I can easily see a forward mix of:

McCreery Mihocek Schultz
Hill McStay Ginni
Int - Elliott

Imo the inclusion of Lachie will aid Ginni in the forward line, another clever ball user that works hard up the ground, meaning Ginni can sit more i50 where his footy IQ allows him to find space and time to convert.
We do play 7 forwards. However that 7th forward could be Ginnivan, Lipinski, WHE, Ash Johnson or even someone like Carmichael or McInnes. There is going to be a fight on for that spot and Ginnivan is only a moderate chance at playing in that spot.

Edit: I forget we might even run Cox or Cameron as a 3rd forward.

I didn't say it was a case of shuffling the deck to fit Ginni in..just pointing out there are spots available for all of them to play and variables in the positions they all can play when or if the opportunity arises.

For example, if Sidebottom gets injured, we know Bobby can play wing. If Billy gets injured or when he retires, we have Ginni to play forward. Adams just left us, leaving another forward spot open.

So I don't see the logic in some who are so intent on pushing out a player we know can find the goals, wants to prove 2022 wasn't a fluke and is willing to put in the hard work on the track which Fly has been talking about since March/April.

I love the idea of Lachie Whitfield running out of our backline. Can we some how get him on a cheap salary and with no draft picks.

maybe if we can disguise him as lachie keefe.

Adams didn’t play the GF and is now gone.

From the GF side, Schultz would most likely replace Ginnivan and McStay replaces Frampton. Frampton (IMHO) comes back in first for Murphy if worst comes to worst there.

So Ginnivan is on the outside looking in to the 23. He would probably be first in line over Harrison for a small forward role currently if Bobby/Beau/Billy/Dr. King get injured although they might lean to a fit AJ, but as a midfielder he is likely behind Macrae/Allan/Carmichael/Reef.
