This is the best of our acquisitions.
Definitely a positional upgrade. I still question if we really needed to burn so much draft currency on bringing in 2 seperate ruckmen. I like the internal competition it will generate and the high training standards Dante will get to develop within, but would've personally been happy to see us with Dante, Hayes and Soldo

Meh.

One exciting part of this is he might actually be able to float a bit and maybe take a mark or two. Something we haven't had from a ruckman since Ryder

He will suit you guys because of your midfield talent in Rozee and Butters.

Don't expect an around the ground star because he's not that - but his tap work is where he excels. If he knocks it down to them on the move, he will thrive in your team.

Wish him all the best, love the big man.
Our need from a ruck is someone that can occasionally win the centre ruck contest, and at least nullify dominant rucks. Then if they can provide an aerial threat around the ground that is a huge gain for us. We really don't have many good marks anymore, and Lycett has been near useless in marking contests.

He will not get bullied, absolute unit and doesn't take shit. Very competitive mindset like his cousin Maric.

He is more cumbersome than mobile though given his size so don't expect a modern day athletic type.

8 marks!!!!???? That's 2/3 years worth of marks for Lycett in 1 game 😯
Or a lifetime of Hayes.
Ivan averages around 2 to 3 marks a game across his 57-game career.

Nothing to write home about, but still a better return to what we currently have:)

41 is probably 45+ after academy, father sons etc. You very rarely even get a serviceable player that isn’t purely a state league player for their career at those picks.

Same with what will be 40+ being our second next year if we’re top 6 after academies, father sons etc next year.

So 2 x 40-45+ picks for a contracted player in a position of need.

That’s a far more acceptable trade than the BZT or Ratagolea ones.

maybe just slightly

fees like a plodder similiar to what we have

I'm more interested in what sweet can bring.

They are both stop gaps.

Dante will go past them.

We may be able to play 2 Rucks with Soldo so that could be the real win there.

That would also squeeze Dixon out if ever he's fit enough to be considered again.

In half the games, he literally doubled Lycett's marks.

Richmond fans driving by, those Lycett marks aren't a mistake. Less than 1 per game!!!!

This is also a Soldo that was playing 2nd banana pretty much all year. He gets us 4 marks per game, and contributes in the ruck and we're laughing.

Not necessarily. The picks that teams will use to match bids are before 41, ie. GC might take 3 academy picks, but it will cost them their 24, 27, 28, 32, 36, 38 to pay for them. They lose those 6 picks for 3 selections and 41 comes into 38.

Would need to have a full phantom draft to calculate where they'd fall.

Cousin of Ivan Maric?

Love this move. Soldo and Finnlayson as a first team combo is athletic and elite from an effort stance.
Ultimately I have faith that Sweet makes it well at AFL level and he’s proved at VFL level that he can kick goals too so rotating both with Dixon for rests helps. Definitely not overs in my books. If Sweet does take off and win that spot early a Sweet/Soldo combo would work well
