News Ivan Soldo's trade to St Kilda falls through

Either way for him to post that he had no intention of leaving is just laughable.

Don't piss on our leg and say it's raining.
Absolutely agree, the turnaround has face saving cover up written all over it, he had plenty of time to say he was attending his best mate's wedding which is obviously more important than an engagement party, but said SFA until the aints pulled the pin and no other club was interested either, and Kornes wasn't the only one who slipped into him, Buckley had a dip as well, as did Jimmy Bartel.

As has already been suggested by others, if he can't get back the number one ruck spot from Sweet do we go through the same sooky la la stuff again if he isn't selected in the Power line up and has to play for the Maggies at Noarlunga.

Keeping Soldo is a good move imo.

He was the #1 tap to advantage ruck in the entire league IIRC prior to his knee injury. Not saying he's the #1 ruck coming into next season, but he is valuable depth at the very least.

I didn't think Sweet was as amazing as others claimed this year (my personal thoughts is many people overrated his performances due to how bad the ruck play has been at our Club for quite a few years), so I won't be surprised if Ivan gets a solid run at it again next year provided he stays healthy.

Not so much a move as no one bloody wanted him lol

St. Kilda wanted him - they just wanted to pay sweet FA for him (along the lines of a future 4th) and when Port said no they pulled out and blamed the knee.

Yep.

I reckon Soldo had the edge with his work at clearance and scoring, but Sweet was better around the ground.

Soldo finished the year with (to put it generously) indifferent form in the SANFL, but I agree he could be back in contention if he has a good preseason.

Unfortunately for Soldo, it's probably a situation where, even if he recaptures the form he showed at the beginning of this year, he might not be able to force Sweet out as long as Sweet also continues playing to the level he did in the second half of this year. Bad situation for the player, but good for the club.

Sweet will likely be the #1 to start next season, but that whole dynamic could swing back very quickly. Form, injuries, society etc

I thought Davies said we aren't allowed to say no to a massively unders trade for a contracted player returning to Victoria. Or is that only for MCG tenants?

I think Ivan was trying to say once the trade fell through he's fine with staying (lol).

As with all things Port they take on the confused hillbilly english of their leader.

Mark Williams was a teacher, and a whole bunch of his players became coaches — teachers and mentors, if you will.

Yabby Jeans was a 1950’s cop, and a whole bunch of his players went around brutalising and vilifying opponents for things they did and didn’t do.

John Worsfold was a pharmacist, and a whole of bunch of his players became chemical enthusiasts.

Ken Hinkley is a ****ing moron, and…

It tracks.

I actually have a bit of sympathy for him.

His personal life went crap here so he wanted to go home and it failed on him unexpectedly.

As long as he shows up and tries his best oh well , he's not ken hinkley or David koch so I don't wish him anything bad
Absolutely. I can’t imagine what it would be like living away from your partner for the foreseeable future. It would be hard to settle in to a place like Adelaide in his situation. There is a lot of conjecture about him throwing a tantrum because he was overtaken for the ruck position, but if your personal life is difficult everything else is so much harder to deal with too.

Not sure what round it is but the Ivan Soldo v Kane Cornes bun fight is getting interesting. As usual Kane a lot to say without necessarily having all the facts. Kane attacked Ivan re the latter's non appearance at the Port B&F. Ivan has fired back saying he had a legitimate reason for non attendance as he was best man at his best friend's wedding. Ivan points out he cleared this with the Club.

Kane Cornes is not the only one to attack Ivan Soldo for not being at the B&F. Nathan Buckley also had a bit to say...

In the face of media criticism it would be nice of the PAFC to publicly back the player on this issue. Maybe they have and I missed it?

The question now is where to from here for Ivan Soldo and the PAFC ?

And the whole 'he wouldn't have wanted to leave if he'd won the #1 ruck spot' argument is pretty well blown out of the water by Dan Houston going back to Victoria to be with his new partner coming off of two consecutive AA's.

Turns out some people like their partners more than they like their job. As they should. If anybody on here hasn't found a partner that they like more than their job, I wish them the best of luck finding that person in the future.
