I agree but their 2024 fixture is absurd. Didnt they also get concessions with their academy players.
They have alot of decent players and if Hardwick gets through to them they'll finally make 8. Its inevitable.
There are atleast 3 sides from last year who can drop out easily.
Walter and Read are talls. Expecting them to make an impact this year and be a finals team on the back of them is wild. Can they become good players ? Yes but it will take time. Heard it all before with GC. Until they show they can develop and keep talent I'll remain sceptical.

I'm pretty optimistic about our chances this year but definitely understand the negativity considering the way the past two seasons have panned out. From the top 4 last year you would imagine Collingwood and Brisbane aren't going to fall out. That leaves us and Port. I reckon we'll be in the mix with about 5 other teams for those final 2 top 4 spots.

Collingwood and Brisbane are locks for the 4 again.
GWS Carlton Adelaide and Port make the 8 imo.
Leaves 2 spots.
Swans without buddy will be better, Essendon also have alot of talent and Brad Scott is a good coach.

We also play shit footy compared to a few of those teams.

Essendon don't have a lot of talent but I agree Scott is a good coach. Will be a tough year, our first six games will give us a great idea of where we are at.

I would still put us amongst the second tier of gws, Carlton and Port. In terms of smokies I have gold coast who have talent and a great coach with dimma, certainly ahead of essendon imo.

Dons don't have a flag side but I reckon they can be a positive win loss team this year. Think you're under selling their talent it's decent.

Essendon have talent?

Fk me.

Draper, Langford, Merrett, Cox, Ridley, Perkins, Hind, Wright, Redman, Stringer, Martin.

Yeah they have talent. There's always teams that come from no where. People laughed at me when I said Carlton had AA talent. Essendon are capable of making the 8 next year.

Pies

Blues
GWS
Us
Port
Crows
Suns
Swans
Dogs

That is ten teams, do you think they have more talent than any of those? TBH I'd argue Saints have more talent too.

No to the first 6. However my opinion is although we have more talent our list is going down not up. May does a calf in round 1 and Gawns off the pace due to age and I don't think our talent is much better than the bottom of the 8 sides at all.

Mind you I said no to the crows but they also could be top 4 next year. It's hard to pick which teams jump but can Essendon do it? Absolutely.
They went 7-15
Then 11-12 last year after making finals in 21.
Brad Scott also coached above his talent level almost every year at North

First time in a while I've looked forward to our praccy matches. A good number of high draft picks I'm keen to see on display, plus development of guys like Woey, Jefferson and Van Rooyen.

Based on training reports on 'Demonland' (stating this to saving TheBoss blowing a fuse again) Jefferson has been in rehab for nearly a month and a bit so I actually don't think we'll see him at all during the practise games.

What's wrong with him?

I had concerns over taking Windsor so high. But I’ve been super impressed with what I saw when I went to training and the snippets we’ve seen from the club. Also the track watchers have been impressed. Was definitely the type we needed so looks like we could be onto something here. Big chance for round zero.

Cornes: “We're not talking enough about Caleb Windsor are we from Melbourne?

“Granted, I haven't been down to see the Dees train, but they did post some vision of him in an intra-club game.

“He was pick seven in the draft, ‘speedy wingman’ is the way that he's been described, ‘draft bolter’, is another way he’s been described.

“But from what I saw on the weekend, he's no draft bolter. He's Sam Walsh, is he not?”

Edmund: “He reminds me a little bit of Bailey Smith just the way he moves around.

“The post from Melbourne was, ‘Caleb Windsor is only a first-year player…we repeat…Caleb Windsor is only a first-year player.”

Cornes: “How good did he look?”

Edmund: “Good speed, good skill and most importantly I reckon - and they all are when they're taken at that level of the draft, I suppose - he looks like an excellent decision maker too.

“He makes the decision, goes quick, goes with conviction, there’s no hesitation and he has great poise for a young fella. He’s happy to take them on.”

General thoughts on Windsor moving forward: I'd hope we wouldnt pigeon hole him as just a winger and use him in the centre square at times. His body looks like it will fill out to be big enough to be fine in there, match this with his defensive work and competitiveness being a strength in his draft tape. We really need a guy who can burst away from stoppage and use the ball well.
