Yeah, that rationalisation never really held water considering the AA team has continually picked inside mids on the wings, full forwards in the forward pockets, back flanks in the back pockets and this year they had Nick Daicos as the rover.

Also he was the best performed defender in the coaches votes and they couldn't even find a spot on the bench for him.

Great year from Sic. So reliable.

Interesting to see him get tagged the last few rounds, particularly Melksham, Cox, Sharman. They all did the exact same thing and try to jump over his head. Going to be interested to see how he combats this going into next year, I presume they will have something up their sleeve because it did work quite well at times for other teams.

I think the hawks looking for KPDs this off-season is part of further freeing up Sic to do his thing.

When a defender is in so much control that the opposition has to tag them you know you have an elite talent.

I always think to myself how must his direct opponent (like say Reiwoldt in Round 19) feel after your defender has not only beaten you defensively but also racked up like 35 possessions and 15 marks

Last year Cornes and Healy said Sicily didn’t make AA because he was in the the fullback category then it would be May that is picked as he was better one on one, and therefore no spot for him. Was the biggest BS I have ever heard as no other defender is in the Sicily category, in that he can dominate intercept marks, and set it up with his damaging kicking as if he is Matt Suckling once he gets it. Cornes with no sense of irony was crying “why doesnt anyone tag him?” when he destroyed Collingwood this year.

What is worse I remember in previous years they always shuffled players around to get the best in. Not only did Jeremy Cameron get picked in his break out year, when Roughead won coleman medal and clearly best forward, they moved ROUGHHEAD to the pocket and gave CAMERON full forward.

It astounds me that both AA selectors and Champion Data judge Sicily and Stewart so differently. It seems Sicily gets penalised for being more accountable and is lumped into the Key Defender category, whilst Stewart is simply Defender with no accountability. I don't understand why they can only consider Sic for a AA KPD spot and not any spot in the backline.

If we can snag McKay/Ratugolea to free Sic up next year to do his thing of half back like only he can.

And if he can somehow avoid the chook lotto that is the AFL Tribunal.

And if he can stay injury free.

Then he’s not without a chance at the Brownlow as he will pump out some seriously big numbers in that scenario.

I don't think up until now CD weight the difficulty of Sicily kicks correctly, nor how he plays his position in relation to other players.

Honestly a joke tom Stewart has 5 x AA and sicily has one lol. I bet if Stewart was at hawthorn he’d have 0! Sicily is an absolute super star and easily the best defender in the comp. Can’t wait to see him get even better

and getting three weeks for one of the best tackles and the umpire paid him a free. It didn't hurt us this year cos we were crap but it's gonna hurt us the anti hawks umpiring next year or year after when we are top 8. Kosi had his arms chopped multiple times on the weekend and no free kicks and the umpiring was crap.

It’s actually been a pleasure to watch the last 5 years of Sicily on the field.

We haven’t been great as a side but wow he has played some of the most consistently brilliant footy I can recall watching (especially the last two years).

I honestly think he is top three in the league based on talent and consistency of effort (along with Bont and Greene).

Ever since the second pre season game I get the feeling sicily wants to unleash on someone, weightman kept barreling through him taking him out of marking contest, basically happens to him the whole game now. It's honestly worth playing phillips if it means he can play free, even serong if he goes okay over the next few games.
