With a flag in the bank it certainly helps ease the pressure ever so slightly.

Only “ever so slightly”?!?!

That’s a bit harsh.

Having a flag in the bank means that we have a coach who has shown that he’s capable of winning it all, capable of coming back from adversity, adapting to conditions, and doing all those things needed to be the very best. And he did it with a list - I love ‘em - but they’re a long way from the best. What Fly has shown he can do is wring everything out them that they’re capable of.

There is no nagging feeling in the back of our mind wondering “Can Fly do this?”

Of course that doesn’t mean he will achieve success again. But we know he will give it a red hot crack.

Unless you reckon Ginnivan was the key to our success?

We only have 20 games to go so get a lot more recovery time than the rest of them from here! That said what’s the point of a Thursday game vs StKilda?

* 21 games

(We have gather round these days)

I dunno domie. Bazball is for youngstas, not the old men that we've got. I just hope we can scratch out 10 wins...
We will have a run at some stage and if we make the finals we will be a dark horse. McStay will play this year. We just have to make sure we are playing in September.

Must say I'm sick of watching the players get together and robotically clap hands after giving up goals on terrible defensive breakdowns.

Celebrate the good, not the bad.

Fly needs to use a little more stick I reckon. The boys have eaten the whole carrot and seem to be lazing about waiting for the next serving.
I hate that too.

They giving High Fives when they get Flogged

Whilst I don’t disagree, I don’t mind them celebrating the little actions over the result - this has been their mantra through the last 2 years.

A goal conceded doesn’t negate the attempted tackle, attempted spoil etc. which is the act of trying to win back possession. Words and actions of encouragement is fine by me.

It’s the whole everything is fine, and we can control these negatives and turn them into positives mentality which is frustrating at the moment. They can’t be so blasé about being zip and 2. Yesterday’s performance was terrible and way below Collingwood’s best - show those actions that made you premiers.

Grit the teeth, and go 100 miles at contests like we saw last year. It’s evident for all to see they’re just being lazy and not working as hard for each other like they were last year. We keep hearing that this game is a matter of inches… play the minutes… such an even comp where if you’re off by just 2%, the opposition catches you. Well make those inches, play those minutes and stop bloody dropping off by that 2% to allow for us be caught and be zip and 2 as the reigning premiers.

Hopefully the run starts this Thursday night. I think its the best thing we have a short turnaround and get the opportunity to have another crack....

Problem is I see them hand tapping after plays in which they have failed to the point that there was zero redeeming quality or effort.

It just looks so contrived.

Yeah I can see what you mean with the optics of it.

From a footballer’s perspective, I do this very thing too to ensure my teammate doesn’t drop his head, and to remind them I’m still standing right next to them for the very next contest.

When you’re out there in battle, you have to constantly remind your teammates you’re in battle together and to keep going.

EDIT: Literally saw this straight after posting.

Absolute joke. Push back and support your teammates in defence! 😡

Shows where Jordans head is at.

That's likely the worst, but there would be a number of others that are similarly inappropriate.

He came in 2 years ago and probably thought I'll see how we go in the first season and if we're crap i'll rebuild and then he got us within a point of a gf and thought ok then we can snag a flag here which he then did. I think he's smart enough to read the room and if this form continues expect a mass cull at seasons end followed by four years of development. I'd endure that.

Painful to consider but probably on the money

I am concerned that we have too many old players in our best side. They aren’t all going to fall off the cliff at the same time, but the law of averages suggest that one or two inevitably will this season.

Yep. Been saying this all pre-season

I had concerns over how we'd manage our older players through

I suggested perhaps using them as on field coaches in the VFL to make sure the crop coming through are more ready to go at the level? While also easing their bodies through better by giving them breaks at the lower level.

with our list profile that's probably a reasonable assessment.

I will forever be in debt to Fly and what he has done for this club, but his selection integrity has been baffling to me throughout his whole tenure

This thread has been a fun little read, but I actually agree with this one.

I have read so many times about about our match committee doing this and that, but then I see Noble picked for Rd 0 pumped up only to be dropped the next week and then Fly talks of it being on him to find room for Macrae only for him to be sub. That Macrae one was a real head scratcher that added nothing to anyone involved.

In the spirit of the path the thread is taking as well my query is the lack of development in our U21 group since Fly came in. Since joining the club the only player we’ve drafted who has established themselves was the biggest free hit the club will ever get. None of this is criticism toward Fly and we’ve been winning so who cares, but that will change (in terms of the U21 in the best mix) hopefully sooner rather than later.
