The free kick count was 30-15 free kicks in our favour tonight, it makes a difference when we finally have the umpires on our side for once.

It looked like they were on Collingwood's side in the first quarter and I thought "here we go again" but then we got the umpire armchair ride.

Maybe it's our turn for an umpire assisted premiership like the Bulldogs got in 2016.

I wouldn't want to win a premiership that way though, I want to win a premiership the hard way with the umpires screwing us per usual.

.

It's sounds weird but they actually seemed to be there like Collingwood were using it to slow the game down and set up ahead of the ball. Lyon released his manic speed game and the Pies looked flustered. Sydney did it to them in a more polished way too. There were a few times where I thought that the umpires didn't call obvious ones conscious of the count.

Yeah so I guess that's the question - what do they want from a ruck. He's never going to win the hitouts but he's super effective.

If Windhager can rack up contested possession and clearance like last night we can have a ruck that is more of an extra mid. What you don't want is a below average tap ruck with below average ball winners around them. Modern footy has less and less pure inside ball winners that break out of traffic and pump the ball forward. I've never rated rucks if they aren't absolutely dominant at the bounce. Witts, Gawn types I absolutely get but give me Nank, English or Marshall otherwise.

Let's hope at least 2 or 3 out of Keeier, Van Es,Horton,Garcia,Collard,Hastie,Garcia and Schoenmaker become stars

Looking at those names I don't think it's out of the question. Wouldn't be surprised if we got that out of last years crop.

Yep, I posted rge same thing, they used it to slow the game down in the first half, after that the frees were about 15-10.

Not many teams as fast as St.Kilda.

What's funny is that the Pies got one up our end that looked out but the boundary umpire didn't call. From where I was sitting it looked a meter out. The Higgins one you'd hope for the fun of the game they don't start to get overly heavy handed about it. The VAR in the EPL is now actually an annoyance rather than something that improves the game. A little bit of a game of chance is actually good theatre (when we win anyway).

Even my daughter's Collingwood boyfriend said the same thing.

hey guys, congrats on the win. Fantasy related question here. Riley Bonner, any chance of being dropped after tonights game? Obviously had the deep kick blunder in front of goals and then had the smothered kick leading to a direct goal. Spent the first 15 minutes on the bench which is never a good way to start a game. His time on ground was well down. 93% last week, and in the 70's this week.
Doubt it. Listen to Ross’ presser and see what he said about him. It was interesting.

Actually listen to the presser, just because. He’s very good, is RTB.

We will miss Wood, I thought he was bog against the injectors last year. Hopefully Henry and Byrnes can step up again like they did this week.
Out: Wood
In: Butler? Collard? Garcia?

Mason was probably the best wingman in footy until injured last year but it does give us the opportunity to train an understudy. Mase was great at offering an extra forward target, filling holes in defence etc but a fast wing could make us take on a different dynamic. Hope he's okay and back soon though.

That was the best team reaction to a win on and off the field, that I have seen at the Saints for a long time. Clearly at half time Lyon got the midfield to spread more, and we saw more of old Steele playing attacking footy instead of chasing and defending- as a matter of fact the whole midfield went on the attack. Great third quarter from Byrnes- really moved the ball along on the outside, and Sharman did some smart things. Windy must now carry on with that great form of last night- best I've see him play.

Although there were a few clangers down back, I don't think it's worth worrying too much, Bonner will be ok once he adjusts a bit more, and Cordy played tough footy. NWM great, and I think with a bit more body strength as he matures, he will be even better.

Great work Saints.

Lyon has balls, when we started to lose the midfield he didn't go back to the old guys, he backed Windy and Owens in. Blunt force and the ballerina. Those two are a nice combo. Windy has really nice lateral movement and speed off a step. Mitchito is like a sledge hammer enforcer.

Mitch reminds me of a rugby player, he's very hard to push over or knock off his line. Sharman was doing the role Wood usually does, his work rate was huge, he was going end to end to help out defence then running back up to make a marking target inside 50. He looked stuffed late in the game but was still running hard.

Bonner isn't perfect but he frees up Nas and Sincs. That defensive line looked like it should be problematic. Quite regularly the only guys behind the ball were Stocker, Cordy and Bonner. The reject B team guys and they held up manfully often with an outnumber inside 50.

Him and Byrnes run end to end with the play so fast it looks like there are two of each. Athletically he's probably the best runner in the league and he's only had one preseason. Imagine what he'll be in 5 years.
Plays like Dal with the tank of Roo. Wait until he is a full time mid, he will destroy his opponents with run.

They were very undisciplined. Case in point that weird front on contact free to Higgins in the goal square. Yes he'd probably have taken the mark but he basically gave away the free on purpose and made sure of it. Also Elliott on Stocker. They seemed to lose their cool.

Of course their fans will whinge but they lacked discipline in my opinion.

I thought he got a couple of dubious ones and they let a few go for collingwood (there was a front on contact they didn’t get maybe in the second quarter which was pretty bad).

Having said that you’re right, the pies were scragging on the mark and in the contest a lot and there was probably a few 50s not paid that should have been.

The higgo one really wasn’t the robbery some are claiming. I think the ball was out but only JUST it wasn’t like he kicked it from the third row. BT and Daisy banging on like it was the Adelaide robbery can **** right off, we were still 2 goals up when he kicked it anyway.

He's clean with his hands and neat with his kicking, he looks like he could play wing, true mid, froward HBF anywhere and we'd have a gun. He looks a set and forget top level AFL player. I can't believe how much our recruiting luck has turned. Phillipou has the personality and drive to become a star. Darcy has the work ethic and quiet determination of a young Robert Harvey.

I haven't seen a replay yet with commentary so I'll check it out. The Pies play on the edge under Fly. They crimp every mark and push every rule to the limit. Last night that line kept getting pushed past and they looked undisciplined.

Compensated for Elliott’s bump ball goal in the first.
But both have the memory span of gnats so would have forgotten about that.
