What I couldn't get my head around was them thinking they should win before the game. Have they not seen how **** they've been for half a decade? It took our worst performance in a terrible year for them to scrape a 2 point win last year.

As nerve-wracking as it was at time, yesterday's game fills me with confidence for Fremantle's future. Exactly as JL said, this is the type of game that we would have lost in previous seasons. The maturity of this team to stick to the plan even when the opposition is piling on the pressure is a sign that they're ready to challenge, that the belief is there. North Melbourne's plan was to sprint out of the blocks and burn all of their petrol tickets in the hope we'd give up, change our structures, or alter our game plan. As Clarko said, unfortunately for them we didn't. We know what good looks like and we stick to it no matter what, trusting that eventually we'll wear our opponent down. Our boys have grown to understand that a game of AFL is a marathon, and they shouldn't over react when a team throws everything they have at you in the first quarter. The wearyness of the Kangas half-way through the second quarter gave them all the information they needed to go into the break with confidence, knowing they would come over the top.

This is the difference between experienced and inexperienced teams. The latter will panic when things are not going to plan. Another factor that requires praise is the evenness of contribution. There are currently very few passengers in this team. Even those getting only a handful of possessions are finding ways to contribute with 1 percenters and pressure acts.

The Fremantle identity is becoming one of consistency. We will outlast you. We absorb your best punches and then smack you harder when you're exhausted. One sign of a top team is the ability to capatilise on momentum when you have it. Towards the end of last year and now these two games, we're putting on lengthy stretches of dominance, slamming on 7, 8, 9 goals. This is a really positive sign.

I do not think we have an issue with slow starts. Stating this is a failure to observe what has changed. Last week we didn't start slow, the first quarter was dead-even if you subtract the goals we gave away for free from ill-discipline. Yesterday against North, they wrecked themselves going too hard too early. Impressive while it lasts, but it doesn't win games of football.

Final comment to make is how laughable it is that the media use Jackson's great games to talk shit about Sean Darcy

. All I was thinking while watching that game is how much we missed Darcy! I am excited to see what we're able to do when we have Chapman and Darcy back. We need Darcy to combat the large rucks so that Jackson can destroy our opponents second ruck, and we can maintain the formidable JJJ up forward.

These early wins are so valuable. They will give us the luxury to rest guys like Fyfe in the second half of the year and really attack the finals. Hoping we can go 8-1 from here before we play Sydney. Let's go Freo!

Our one wood is centre square work. It worked beautifully against Brisbane who were missing Lachie Neale and aren’t centre square specialists. We absolutely belted them out of the middle.

LDU finds another leg against us. Ex team mate of Brayshaw from high school? Not sure why, but our mids go to water against him.

Anyone who would pass up Chad Warner because our midfield is “set” has no idea.

Johnson, Erasmus, Fyfe, Aish, JOM aren’t fit to be in the rotation long term.

Erasmus and Johnson might get there. Fyfe when fit still has it. Aish and JOM never had it.

Serong and Brayshaw are elite. Young is close. We need more quality to roll through the middle.

Not sure it's fair to say that O'Meara can't run through the middle. He's no gun, but he's a quality b-grader. Johnson and Erasmus will both be quality mids, whether they are top shelf remains to be seen. There's also Brodie in sheds (solid B-grader who can have A games) and Cooper Simpson (by all reports at least a B grader). There is also Jackson who will get midfield minutes when Darcy returns and is pure quality. Switta also plays quality minutes.

There's also a chance Stanley / Driz play inside out in years to come.

So mids (in or on the edge of the 22): Brayshaw, Serong, Young, Fyfe, Johnson, Erasmus, Brodie, Jager, Jackson, Simpson, Switta, Darcy.

That seems pretty damn stacked to me. I'd more be looking at gun half-backs and half-forwards, wings and keys at both end.

I’m rapt to be 2-0 and think we have a huge amount of upside around the ground, a will to win and plenty of heart in the group, and a scary good midfield.

But the way they tore us up in the first 40 minutes of the game was pretty concerning, they missed some easy chances that could have had them pushing a lead of close to 50 (!) before we really dug in and upped the work rate.
To be fair they were playing scintillating footy, well above their ladder position during that period, but we were not defending well and top 8 teams would not let us win from that position.

Being able to comeback and win from any position is a great trait to have but if we can’t find our rhythm earlier in games those comebacks are going to fall short sometimes and cost us wins

Interesting take on Warner. CBA last night 22/38 with 2 CC. Not sure those numbers will make a huge difference to our CC work.
I’m in for Warner but don’t see him as CC beast.

With our three first round picks later this year I think we need to target in order 1. Liam Baker (we need that half back who can run and deliver but also defend) 2. Chad Warner and 3. Logan McDonald (only a maybe but my third preference). Baker and McDonald both out of contract and Warner 1 year left. Also most importantly they are all Aquinas boys.

Little negative comment here, sorry poshman
Haven’t watched the full replay yet, but watched the highlights & on the back of last weeks game, there can’t be such a huge gulf between our best & worst footy.

As we get deeper into the season & in general will be more fatigued, we won’t be able to flick the switch & overrun teams. There has to be some discussion among the playing group & coaches that realistically needs to be player driven on how that needs to be addressed.

There will clearly be stats associated with that as there are stats for everything & I presume it will be bought up in the media this week.

Points on the board early on are always good though & 11 different goal scorers is huge with 5 or 6 coming out of the midfield.

I don't think this is a being negative. Our starts are an issue that need to be a priority for us. So far JL and Pearce haven't shown they can correct the issue. We need it to turn around quickly.

Having said that, I am confident we are enjoying the beginning of something special here. The Decade of Dominance. Also now known as the 'Dockade'!

This is the wrong thread to discuss this but Collard hasn't done anything yet. Wouldn't trade for him unless he asked to come home. I think some time under Ross would do wonders for his discipline and maturity. The only benefit to brings him home early is that Sonny will be able to mentor him.
