The stupid thing is, Tex would not have kicked 76 goals this year if Fogarty wasn't in the team. He has acted as the perfect foil as the opposition cannot man up on them all at once.

Yup. Thilthorpe, Rachele and Rankine as well play a key role as well, alongside players like Hinge, Milera, Dawson and Smith being potent on the outside. This year wasn't Tex dragging a medicore offensive unit to the top of the mountain. Tex was the focal point of a side stacked with offensive talent and boy did he profit off that once he got hot.

For Fog, 34 goals and some impact around the ground is a very solid year for a 2nd KPF - and likely third option. There are a few teams in the top 6 who were barely scraping by that with their number one forward, and in Melbournes case, didn't.

I think next year can be the first year we can call Fog a senior player , happy to go with fact he was still in development this year

Did really well to get thru the early season with the medial ligament , helped win us the game against hawks in that period

Dropped off after bye lost some confidence, bounced back for a couple of games including the showdown … Then ran into Brisbane where he didn’t look like he backed himself in against Andrew’s et al , looked like he didn’t quite believe in himself at times

He’s had all the ups and downs now and had full backing of the coaches so next year I’ll judge him more like a senior player

C'mon. He is entering his 7th season and his highest goal tally is 35 goals. He is in the leadership group.

Forwards taken around his draft position:

2015 - McKay kicked 50 goals in his fifth season
2016 - Todd Marshall 46 goals in season 6.
2017 - Naughton kicked 40+ goals in seasons 4,5,6. Oscar Allen kicked 50+ goals in 2023. Fritch kicked 50+ in seasons 4 & 5.
2018 - Max King 50+ goals in his 3rd season.

His last 20 games haven't been good at all. Had an amazing start to the season as he kicked 13 goals in his first 4 games (even though he was injured after round 2 and came back for rounds 5&6 and looked great).

His last 20 games - he has averaged 10.6 disposals, 4.2 marks, 1.15 goals, .6 goal assists, 2 inside 50's, .6 FF and 1.25 frees against.

Compare that to old Elliot Himmelbergs last 22 games across the past 3 years:

Himmelberg averaged 9.3 disposals, 3.4 marks, 1 goal, .35 goal assists, 2 inside 50's, 1.1 FF and .9 frees against.

You’re quoting a post from August 23, now that’s dedication to take down Fog

He just needs to get in front of his opponent more often.

When he does, he creates scoring chances and is a very good key forward.

Playing in front fixes poor I50 delivery as well. Unless kicked over the head.

You have to wonder what he’s being told though when we have tactical genius’s that say, “boys up the field, go slow until you get close enough to bomb it high into the 50, and don’t worry about Stewart because even if he gets near it we have Pedlar to neutralize the contest.”

I'm gonna go the low hanging fruit here but in 2021-2023 I just blamed his percevied fitness and all that for him not becoming elite yet. The weight of first round draft picks we have who haven't kicked on has me more convinced that, although Darcy may be somewhat to blame, our coaches are flipping horrible.

Did McKay, Marshall, Allen, Fritsch, Naughton and King have at least 1.5 years of footy wasted with fumbling around in the reserves, trialling them as a key defender as well as a feeble attempt to make them big bodied midfielders?

That being said, I do very much miss when Fog had a set shot you just knew it was going to be a goal.

Our key forwards still need to be able to read the ball off the boot.

The fundamentals don't change. Play in front and get to the ball first.

Stewart is better at reading the ball than our guys. He got to the best position because of this. And does it every time.

Burgess is good at this as well. Due to his lack of natural talent/ability, he filled this gap by being smarter.

Or at his feet or bounces well before him or kick wide
Can't help them.

But plenty of examples where a mid kicks to a good spot, but our forwards not leading there.

Dawson and Sog are pretty good at putting the ball to the best spot a firward should lead to.

Twice Dawson did this on the weekend, and neither Tex or Fog could get to it.

The putrid entries from Pedlar and Murphy you can't do anything with.

Because Stewart doesn’t have an opponent to worry about

yeah you're right our forwards should totally be able to read the ball off the boot as "put on my head with two defenders on me"

Fog is the clearest example of how shit our development of young players is. Why the **** did they ever play him at half back?

Problem with that is the Crows player with the most score involvements is Matt Crouch (16), Jordan Dawson (14) Darcy Fogarty (13).

Had it filtered by forwards.

Not sure the point is particularly diluted by his being third.
