Am I missing something with the Hawks?
So many media pundits go out of their way to talk up their progress and say things like they already have the bones of a good team/game plan. I just dont see it, the list is bog average bar a few guys like Day and Moore.
And Mitchells game plan is straight out of the downhill skier book. We've been there, it pulls the wool over your eyes as a fan thinking "oh we can score so just need to tighten up our defense" well from experience that never happens if you dont teach a young group to be accountable from an early point.

Yep I don't rate Hawthorn's team at all.

People overrate their list and progress because they beat a few good teams every year, namely Collingwood and Brisbane. It overshadows how bad their list is and how little progress their rebuild is making. People pointed to Hawthorn beating both grand finalists last year as a reason for their improvement.
Problem is Brisbane haven't beaten Hawthorn since 2019 and Collingwood have lost 19 out of the last 25 games to Hawthorn including 17 of the last 20. They've consistently beaten them even in bad years so why would this year have been any different?

I can see what North are building. I could see what Gold Coast were building. But Hawthorn to me are just as bad now as they were when COVID first hit with not many talented players to be excited about. Forget the bottom sides. Sides like St Kilda and Bulldogs have more exciting youngsters.

it's why Nick Watson's selection is bizarre because they're not in the position to be taking risks with a top 5 pick.
