Hello and welcome to the 2024 Upsets Game. Any Essendon poster can play this game. There is no need to sign up or be in from the start to win, but please don't let that disuade you from posting 'IN' right now like you really mean it. You can start playing at any point in the home and away season. You just need to pick an upset. The bigger the upset, the bigger the win. The competition will conclude at the end of the last home and away round.
Here's how it works.
Rather than use gambling odds we're using the world famous Squiggle aggregate. Don't know what that is? Check it out here because you'll need to keep an eye on it to make your selection each week. Or not. Skip a week if you want. What are the chances of someone else picking an upset if you can't remember to do it? Maybe the people remembering to try each week can't? Maybe nobody can? Crazier things are happening in the world every day!
Each round you can select one team you think will win in an upset. You can change your mind as many times as you like up until the bounce (or as close to as possible) of the first game of the round. Once the first ball is bounced (or as close to as possible) the entire round is locked out. A screenshot of the final Squiggle aggregates will be posted as at the opening bounce (or as close to as possible) just like this grab from round 1 2020 (or as close to as possible):
We'll use this as an example to illustrate how it works from there. Let's take the first game - Richmond v Carlton.
Cast your minds back.. At the time of the bounce (or as close to as possible) in the 2020 R1 season opener Richmond Carlton game, 74% of tipsters were tipping Richmond and 26% Carlton. If you were to select Carlton as your tip and they managed to get up we go 100/26 = 3.85. and that's your score for round 1. If you had selected Richmond you'd get 0 because they were the favourite. And they won. Because **** Carlton.
If you pick a side that is being tipped to win even if its only by 1% you will score zero.
If the team you select loses or you forget to make a selection before bounce down (or as close to as possible) of game 1 of that round you get zero.
So the bigger the upset the bigger the potential score and at the end of the home and away season the player with the biggest total score wins. It's as simple as that.
In case its not become apparent yet, my screenshot has the final say and no serious correspondence will be entered into.
Prizes will be a cool perpetual badge more than likely a lot similar if not identical to this one and a 12 month Platinum BF upgrade/extension for the winner and 12 month Gold BF upgrade/extension for second and third. As if it wasn't already the best deal in town, when it's free, it's bliss (or as close to as possible).
Also, as the game organiser I reserve the right to add in any further rules or judgements I feel may be necessary if things occur that I wasn't expecting. I will not be playing so you can rest assured my decision will remain 100% impartial and above reproach. Or else.
Good luck!!
